Well, this is freaky:  I'm confident that when I checked on Wednesday the Wells system said this card wasn't eligible for a product change.  I just checked it again, for the hell of it ... it's offering a switch to Active Cash.  Done deal.  (And, surprisingly, it looks like the card is going to retain it's 6.65%.)

I think maybe they have some sort of rolling conversion plan whereby they open up more and more options for conversion.  They probably looked at what cards for them would make the most sense (and are allowed by there partner payment network) to convert then gradually open up more options as it suits them.  That looks like a no brainer conversion from your old card looking at the two.  I am a bit curious on this new card what the minimal amount of point redemption will be (my Propel was/is currently $25 minimum to convert points).

I can't PC our card (Rewards Visa) either.

We recently received and activated replacement cards, which were sent to us automatically because the expiration date is this month.

To be certain I went through the card activation process again yesterday, and then waited overnight in case a database refresh was required in order to re-enable the PC functionality.

Same result this morning, though.

Now I'm going to wait until the next statement closes (9/3) and try again, and if that doesn't work then my backup theory will kick in.

I waited until after the statement cycle closed and then was able to PC to the Active Cash card.  Not sure if there's a cause/effect or this was a coincidence, but we'll take it.

Now...  we can finally get rid of this stupid City Dubble Kash card and its Rube Goldberg device for paying 2% back (eventually).

Candidates are still the Costco Anywhere and the Custom Cash.

I'm leaning toward the Custom Cash, which would become our 5% gas card.

With the addition of the Custom Cash, we'd have better options for every category (plus non-category spending) than anything offered by the Costco card.

4% on eligible gas, including gas at Costco for the first $7,000 per year and then 1% thereafter

3% on restaurants and eligible travel purchase worldwide

2% on all other purchases from Costco and Costco.com

1% on all other purchases

I don't think we've ever purchased anything significant from Costco that would benefit from the additional warranty benefit, and there are no plans to change that.  I could always make the purchase from Costco.com and pay with an Amex that offers additional warranty coverage (even if it's not 100% comparable coverage).

You've got me thinking about changing my DC to the Custom Cash. I need to look deeper into the Custom Cash before deciding.

So, almost 4 weeks later and < crickets >.  Switch was never confirmed by email and no sign of it online.  May I overlooked something to confirm the change up (I don't think so).

And, of course, the option to convert the account no longer is available online.  May follow up by phone, but who has time for this nonsense?

Thats definitely glitched, calling sounds like such a pain but I actually had good recent luck with wellsfargo once i got past the horrid AI menu and was able to talk with a person.  I think AI menu may be possibly the worst customer service experience any business could have.

Before custom cash existed I was happy to switch mine to Costco (my DC) and I do use it because Costco accounts for all my gas and 1/2 my grocery but overall the Custom Cash is a superior card, especially if max out the $500 on one category anyway each month.  If I had not opened a bunch of other stuff I would get one for a Grocery card for all the non costco grocery's.  I currently use a blue cash everyday for that because I dont shop enough to make the blue cash preferred worth it in grocery cost.

So, big < head slap > here.  Looks like I never clicked on the final "confirm" to change the card (likely too distracted by taking a screenshot ;( ...

And, of course, when I returned, I forgot where the conversion option is in the menus and went looking for it in the wrong place.  Fixed now and have a confirmation email in my inbox.

Now to come up with a strategy for my Citi cards once my DC falls into disuse ...

Give that Dubble Kash a Viking funeral, but depending on your target card for the PC, first make sure you don't use it for at least one full cycle to allow time for the trailing 1% rewards to finally post.

And also make sure you have at least $25* stacked up or you won't be able to do a final redemption at all.

* I'm betting that you're more likely be to have $37,000 in rewards sitting there.  Just dubble checking.

I’m still debating this. I can’t get past the $500 cap thing.

I'm thinking about the Custom Cash as my 5% gas card, and that's the only use it would get.

Most months I spend < $100 on gas, which isn't worth tying up a 3% (5.25%) category on one of our BoA 3/2/1 cards.

I'd never hit $500 on gas in a month.

One more credit card they offer is the Wells Fargo Advisors Visa card. I think you need to go through your brokerage account financial advisor to apply. I only have their Wellstrade self-directed account (no broker to bug me) so I'm guessing I can't apply. I did request the brokerage account debit card, that they don't really advertise.

Thats really an interesting card, they essentially rolled two former cards benefits that used to be combined as two no annual fee cards into a single entity and made it by invitation (likely to compete with other brokerage cards) :  the WF Propel benefits + WF visa signature were the two former products which emulated this when had together.  4.5% back for tairfare is certainly not a bad deal with no annual fee, but I too dont want someone else managing my brokerages

The credit card says "By Invitation" but it looks like one just contacts their Wells Fargo financial advisor and say they want to apply.

Such brokerage accounts have minimums from $10,000 to $2 million, but I wouldn't open such an account solely to apply for a credit card. My Wellstrade account has something like $600 in it, so I'm just a peasant with them.  ;)
