Trying to get a lien off a title for a boat from Transamerica Retail Financial Services from back around 2001. Cannot get ahold of a person. Nobody seems to know what we could be doing.

When was the loan paid off and who has the paper title right now?  Does the lender even still exist under that name or have they been acquired/subsumed by merger?

Additionally, depending on the State, there is often a process where a lender no longer can be traced.  Your State's title registry office should be able to provide some guidance in this regard because I will guarantee you that they have seen it somewhere in the past...

See the questions I posed to the OP and that were never answered.

Due diligence will be your friend.  In this day and age, it is NOT difficult to track the history of a financial services entity...

There had to be a court case associated with these liens, look it up. If it's this old it prob won't be on line; you may have to go to the courthouse and research it. Then when you find the case, file a motion with the court to have it removed for whatever reason yourcourt  rules allow. If the motion is granted, take a copy of the judge's order to the town hall where the lien  is filed and give it to the clerk.

Why do you presume a court case?

Liens on things like boats and property are ALSO attached through loans without ANY manner of litigation EVER entering the chat...

Well, he didn't say one way or the other. Could be the standard lien that stays in place until the loan is paid off. He didn't tell us if it was paid off either, so it's SWAG time until he comes back and gives up the info. Considering he posted in May, I doubt he will.

EXACTLY!  He did not say there was a court case and yet you STILL send them on a wild-goose chase which will then see them getting sent on a hunt for a left-handed smoke shifter before the snipe hunt commences.

Going off half-cocked with guidance helps NOBODY.
