I went to the Wells Fargo web site to check which streaming services are eligible for the Propel card 3x category, since they change the list from time to time.  It turns out that the Propel card is now gone from the site.

Upon investigation, I found this reddit thread from a month ago, which announced a rumor that the Propel card would be discontinued today.

I have received no notice from WF regarding whether this is really a discontinuation, or part of a revamp, or whether existing cardholders will be grandfathered.

Super interesting as i was going to convert out of it anyway. I just used up 100000 points for $1000 cash back to my checking so very few points left now anyway. I will just pause and see what they say. Maybe they will let me turn it into a Hotels.com card like I planned

Heads up- When you product change a Wells credit card they close the account and open a new account.

I wonder if they are re-launching the card in the future, as that card was very popular.

Yeah i was a little worried about that but was going to see if it was negotiable. I need to open a chase sapphire first anyway so was going to wait to try sometime before November

A PC out of the AXP-branded product would necessitate a new number.  Remember that the AMEX transactions are a 17-digit account number beginning with a 3.  Contrast that with V/MC which are 16-digits and will begin with either a 4 or a 5.

Right idea, though it's actually a 15-digit account number.

[Edit]

Originally I also wrote that my Propel account number on my credit report was not the same as the card's number, but I was looking at it wrong; it is the card's number.  So, the way it gets reported, WF would not have any flexibility and would require opening a new account with zero age.

This fits with what they made me do a few years ago.  I tried to PC from a Visa Signature to the Propel Amex, and they made me close the Visa and open a new account for the Amex instead.

Thanks all thats good to know! Im not going to bother changing it then.  I just applied for the CSP and was going to do this but I actually am pretty happy with the propel card too so will just keep as a 3% back dining card and back up travel card.  They sometimes have decent AMEX promotions and savings deals too and I do have a WF checking account so I dont mind.  I do need to figure out a 2 to 2%+ general use card for when I ditch the venture later this year.  Maybe I will just do a Citi double cash again as I had one that I converted to my costco card.  It also has the advantage for me in that it would be a mastercard as I currently just have the two AMEX and 3 visa.

Chatted to them today.

Program disco'd, not accepting new apps, existings are grandfathered, no hint of forced PC or anything on the horizon.

But that's coming from a CSR who hasn't hit their 2yr mark yet, so who tf knows.  She did state that many CCs have been disco'd in the past at WF, and people who had and kept those cards still have full use of them to this day.

I'm just remembering AMEX cancelling Zync, and how sad that made me.
