5) A second phone call (currently on hold at 9:10 and counting).  I can allocate ~24 more minutes to this before I need to join a meeting so I can continue to earn a living.

The SDFCU agent who took my call doesn't have access to documents that customers upload.  :lol:

It makes absolutely zero sense why they'd hire and train people to (eventually) answer the phones, and then not supply them with the tools they need to provide service.  But this is what passes for "service" at a kredit younyun.

After we got past that, she asked me if I could email the letter in.  :lol:

Unfortunately I'd originally printed and signed the letter and scanned it to a thumb drive, and didn't save the letter anywhere else.  And that specific drive is at TAD's office.

So the agent told me that our other immediate option was for her to "email the department that handles the uploaded documents," and call me back when she got a response.  She added that the department closes at 4:30 pm today, so she was skeptical about getting a response before they close.

"No hurry, it's already been three weeks," I nearly blurted out.

The agent was polite and efficient, so at this point I'm taking her at her word that she'll call me back no later than COB tomorrow.  Whether or not they'll find my letter is anyone's guess.

*********************

On a side note, I was just looking at the email confirmation they sent me on 1/7 after I uploaded the letter.  I masked some of the information for obvious reasons (I don't want any of you nutbags emailing me, for example)...

But I also obscured most of their system-generated confirmation ID inside the message itself, because at least part of this is personally-identifiable.  The portion that's obscured by the pale orange rectangle is my full member number.

At best this is a sloppy security practice.

Closed my Amex Gold and Amex Platinum as they were of no use the last year and the fees were due. They offered a Green card but I declined as it also had a fee and I have 4 other Amex cards without. That's all for today be back soon for some additional closures.

Cross posting our decision to cancel my Chase Sapphire Reserve, due to a 60% reduction in travel/dining charges in 2020 vs 2019.

I initially asked for a downgrade to the $95 fee Sapphire Preferred, but in the 60 sec that I waited for the CSR to put the request in, it suddenly occurred to me that we had no use for a 2%/2.5% rebate card on travel/dining.  We can fall back on our old 3% combo of Chase AARP (travel) & Citi Prof (dining), which I wouldn't mind "airing out at all!

In hindsight, one might claim I've been sleepwalking through my deliberations re keeping my CSR intact.  Supporting that notion is that fact that today I sheepishly got back on the phone with a Chase CSR to ask if the account I closed 12 days ago could be reopened!

This was prompted today when a renewed glance at UR redemption options this am surfaced the surprising fact that Chase had extended, through Mar 31, the 50% bonus on CSR point redemption when used to offset any dining/travel charge activity in the past 90 days.  This is a pretty sizable giveaway, and in terms of prospective charging over the next 2 months represents another $50 bonus on top of the normal cashback earned on anticipated charges ($3000+ on dining, etc. with 3% rewards).

With another 9 mo opportunity for who knows what's to come down the pike in unusual incentives, it's yet another "no-brainer" (we won't touch on whether that's an inherent source my muddle alone ;) ) to seek re-opening of the account.   (I haven't touched on the fact that I hadn't fully redeemed the 2021 $300 travel charge credit yet.)

Of course, when I called, I really thought there would be less than a "snowball's chance in hell" that the account could be reopened after 12 days.  Lo and behold, the account was opened for use within the first 2 minutes of the call (a record).

So hopefully that's the last to write about my stumbling efforts.  As souvenir, I have a AAA Visa for the sake of replacing the 3% travel rewards after killing the Chase.  (At least I can justify that move by earning the $200 SUB on $1k purchases ...)

I think Chase might generally allow a closed account to be reopened within 30 days, but maybe I'm confusing that with another issuer.

I hung up after 10 minutes of trying to get help by phone.  I had to join a meeting at the top of the hour, so I couldn't spend any more time listening to hold music.

So far my futile attempts to leave SDFCU have included:

1) A signed letter, which I uploaded to their web site on January 7;

2) A follow-up email which elicited a response that made it clear that the agent hadn't read/absorbed the short narrative I provided with my inquiry (response: "We can't find the letter you emailed to us.");

3) Another follow-up email (which also yielded no results) to correct erroneous information from the agent who responded to my first email (response: "Nope, we still have no idea where that letter went.");

4) A phone call which was aborted after 10 minutes of phone trees, followed by hold music.

The agent called me back the following day, and confirmed that they have no idea what happened to the letter I uploaded to their secure web site.

She instructed me to send the request by email, with "Attn: Deposits and Check Operations" in the subject line, and gave me her name in case I needed further assistance.

I just emailed the letter, along with a brief recap of this madness, and indicated that my next step if this is still unresolved is to file a complaint with the appropriate regulatory agencies.

After six attempts since January 7 to leave this kredit younyun I received an email yesterday which contained:

1 - A generic copy/paste apology for being slow to respond due to a high volume of email

This has been in every email response I've received, both system- and human-generated.  I suppose changing email templates and retraining agents to barf back the same empty apology over and over and over is easier than resolving their staffing/customer service issues.

2 - A statement that my savings account has been closed, a check for my account balance is on the way, and my membership has been terminated.

On a more positive note, I finally closed out my State Farm Bank now USBank checking and savings accounts. I moved all the money out last month, tried to go online to close ... no such luck. Tried the "send a message" ... didn't fit their template. So they took their monthly fees out of zero dollar accounts. Great. Just effing great. Today I received a nastygram that harkened back to my dark days of being dunned by CA's and other shady people from Buffalo. They were closing my accounts in 60 days and reporting me to ChexSystems if I didn't put money in my accounts. Well at least they were closing them but I can do without being in Chex.

So I finally called. I press zero right away after Touch Tone(TM) my info as I wanted to speak to a real person even if the person was in Bangalore. Guess what? Press zero too soon and it tells you "invalid entry please try again" ... after playing "Ring Around the Rosie" three times with the phone tree it finally tells me to press zero to reach a real person. Hallelujah! So they didn't put up much of a fight, and the rep did waive the fees and zeroed out the accounts, and the rep assured me this was zeroed out and the fees that put the accounts in the red were waived.

Now watch - I closed out my checking and savings, and I'll find that my affinity group credit card that is through USBank will end up closed too... just my luck.

Stop.

Hit unsubscribe top right. DW had a CU account sending postal mail for 7 years after it was closed which is why we opt to always get digital mail.

I did.

I don't have any confidence in the Apple Mail unsubscribe requests, though.

Maybe it'll work, maybe it won't.

Here's a summary of my current and former kredit younyun memberships.

Special note to circa-2012 CB members:  I naively believed you, in a big way.  Most of this blood is on your hands.

Closed (list potentially incomplete):

Alliant:  Terminated (awful mortgage experience);

Patelco: Terminated (catastrophically awful mortgage experience);

Stanford: Terminated (no value);

State Department:  Terminated (no value);

United Nations:  Terminated (bad mortgage experience);

United States Senate Terminated (frightfully awful service, no value);

USE Terminated (secured card would never graduate; no value).

Still Open:

Navee Fedrul:  Dramatically overrated trash heap solely for the truly credit-desperate; best known for its abusive security practices that needlessly freeze customers' accounts, and for failing to offer basic account functions like initiating inbound ACH transfers from other institutions.   I'm keeping this one open so I can report the atrocities firsthand -- as a community service 😛 .  I'm currently enjoying the novelty of a 3% APY 12-month CD, although they cap the eligible balance below what I had saved by age 15 (yes, really);

PennFedd Should be terminated after a catastrophic mortgage experience, but I'm keeping this one open for potential future auto buying/leasing discounts;

USAA (not a credit union, but sucks like one):  most years, once or twice I use the international ATM fee reimbursement (but pay 1% FTF).  The 1% FTF isn't enough to get me to shut this down and open an account somewhere else like Schwab, where the international ATM withdrawals would be completely free.

Wow.  (no "tongue in cheek" smiley??)

All I can say is that I didn't leap off that cliff ...
