Not bad for a $69 overnight stay.

I am more interested in the price of 39 dollars because there is no star rating.

I haven't stayed in many $39 Choice properties because many of the Choice promos require at least $40 before taxes, a night to earn whatever promo they are doing.

A couple of years ago, Choice had a promo. Earn 5000 points per stay. No minimum night requirement at the same property. After reading the fine print, I went in for the kill. I booked 5 nights in Knoxville, at 5 different Choice properties. Fine print prevented me from checking in/out of the same hotel each day. I earned 25,000 points on top of the base earning for the week. I probably could have just alternated between 2 hotels, but I didn't want to risk things not triggering properly.

When my manager saw my expense report, he called me laughing his arse off to find out how many points I earned from that stunt.

When we vacation, we usually stay in major urban centers. Those Choice properties typically require 20k to 30k points per night.

Yes, I was lucky enough to stay at the Gold Strike Hotel in Jean, Nevada, when the hotel was full of customers and it cost $55. Well, the luxurious high roller room is really $250 per night, and a Jacuzzi is added to the suite next to the bathroom shower. I checked in early without a reservation. I'm sorry, the counter clerk said: All rooms are filled by customers at Gold Strike Hotel & Casino.

Hehe... I was thinking I may need to sleep in my rental Jeep for the night. A few hours later, there was a raucous in the lobby room between the hotel clerk and a hotel guest. I discussed the hotel’s WiFi network. I talked with the hotel clerk citing the guest's concerns and explained the guest's frustration to the clerk. What was not done was very happy. Soon the argument and confusion stopped. The good thing for me to help the hotel is that the management supervisor listened to what I said and knew that I wanted to stay overnight, but there was no vacancy. It was no problem for me. Then, he came forward and offered me a luxury suite for $55. Oh gosh! I opened the suite door and was mesmerizing... It was a huge room with a king-size bed and mattress, a double sofa (loveseat), and a rotatable lounge chair.

I was awarded this magnificent suite because the hotel said I deserved it, hehe...I think I am lucky. I guess lucky me!

Yeah, StarkRaven$!   My epiphany scene of the moment and thanks for reminding me of that. Now, I think of driving this Jeep from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX, haha... yeah, remember that Travelodge I was living in? ) to Barstow, to Baker, every moment, fueling between all these Denny restaurants, admiring Scenic, and is the slowest driver driving more than 80 miles per hour on almost straight interstate highways. Indeed, this is an arduous 5-6 hour drive, including rest and emergency refueling. Yep, because this is a new Jeep, I cannot find the fuel gauge on the dashboard until the fuel gauge lights up to warn that the fuel is almost used up... 🤬

A rural area called Baker, with a population of under 1,000 saved my bacon. Before making a stopped at Baker, I was enjoying my salmon lunch at Denny in Lenwood a census-designated place (CDP) in the Mojave Desert near Barstow, in San Bernardino County, California. The population was about 3,650, and there where I encountered the infamous route 66 formed by a transversal line of highway that intersects crossing with Interstate 40, 15, and route 66.

This vacation was so vivid that I remember every detail meticulously. Haha... Well, for an amateur player I only lost $60 in a poker slot machine at Jean, but, in return, I got that fabulous suite,  :D  and a few days later, I won big in Las Vegas. Again, lucky me!  :yahoo:

A couple of bowl winder offers came my way today.

First on deck, was this email from Choice. Sorry, but it's gonna take more than 20,000 points for me to sit through a time share presentation, just to say NO to a bunch of high pressure sales weasels, over a 2 to 3 hours.

GyelfNO.jpg

Next on deck is a CC offer from Signature FCU. I'm a member of the Rail Passengers Association. Washington DC lobbying arm for passenger rail (Amtrak), then all the way down to local light rail. Other than a one time statement credit of $25, this turd has no earnings multipliers of any kind. Only benefits it has is Car rental coverage, ID theft coverage, and cell phone coverage. Plain Jane Visa Platinum.

In other ramblings, business is taking me back to Raleigh for a couple of weeks, starting Sunday. Mrs. Vig wants to go to Washington DC for a few days in May, She has never been. I guess I can tolerate the place for a few days.

Haven’t committed to anything yet. Doing some preliminary research in regards to our trip to DC.

I found this hotel, that is over 100 years old, and looks like the rooms haven’t had a refresh since Marilyn Monroe was a side chick at the White House. My kind of place.

https://www.hotel-harrington.com

I looked on YouTube to see if any past guests have posted videos of the rooms. Not many videos, and what’s on there is 10+ years old so the video quality sucks.

Besides price. It’s close to everything by foot and a Metro station is close by to get to everything else.

The positive about going to DC during COVID, is that we won’t have to deal with 8th grade field trip season. I had to explain that to Mrs Vig. During normal times the place can get over run kids.

Room will be booked on Hotels.com, using gift cards and cash back sitting on one of my cards.

We won’t drive there. I’m too cheap to pay a daily parking fee. We could fly, and burn up a couple of Delta certs I have. Or take Amtrak. Most likely it will be Amtrak. Save the certs for a west coast trip to show Mrs Vig what a real tent city looks like.

US Bank Cash+ offer. Not sure what I need from a home improvement store at the moment. Gift Card(s)?

I got the same email a bit ago, but deleted it and can't readily find it in my trash folder.

If you still have it, is the 2% in addition to the base rewards, or is is 2% total?

I'm having some work done on our place in CA, and I'm mildly interested if it's 3%.

I deleted it after I accepted the offer. Didn’t read the fine print.

Edit—- I feel like a dirty salamander, for not reading the fine print. Not reading the fine print, is what caused some of us to discover Credit Boards. LOL

Got another email. for my dad's Altitude this time.  One could infer that it's +2% since the credit posts separately later.

I wrongfully assumed that the offer was on Cash+, but on the Altitude if any of the flooring or tile stores take Apple Pay, that's 4.5% + 2%, which works for me all day long.

To be eligible for this offer that runs through April 30, 2021 (promotion period), you need to enroll by March 31, 2021. You can earn a 2% statement credit per dollar spent, up to $25, on net purchases at Home Improvement Stores, Hardware Stores and Garden Centers. The statement credit will be applied to your account within 2-3 billing cycles after the end of the promotion period. Net purchases are purchases minus credits and returns. Your account must remain open, have available credit, and be current (no minimum payment past due) to qualify. This offer is valid for in-store and online transactions in the Home Improvement Store, Hardware Store and Garden Center categories and will qualify based on how merchants classify the transaction. As U.S. Bank cannot control how merchants choose to classify transactions, U.S. Bank cannot guarantee a transaction will qualify. Only purchases for services made directly with the merchant apply to the promotion. This offer may not apply if your credit card has changed to a different type of card within the last 12 weeks or changes before the statement credit is applied. If you have any questions, call Cardmember Service at 844.357.2015‍.
