Vig's Points, Miles, and Cash Back Earnings 2021 Edition

Recommended Posts

We are taking a three day weekend mid February. Going to Myrtle Beach, SC. Staying at a familiar budget property. Booked via Amex Travel for $150. A steal for three nights. Ocean front. No redemptions since it's so cheap. Place was built back in the 1960's. Bed's are clean and more comfortable than they look.

They need to update their pics. The tube TV is priceless. lol.

Fetch Rewards    Scan receipts. Get points you can use towards gift cards.

Mrs. Vig brought this program to my attention. For her it's easy to use, and doesn't require much thought on her part. I was skeptical at first. I wasn't interested in an another program that requires a bazillion points just to earn a $5 GC to Starbucks. I was surprised. they actually have GC that are useful to us. We like to travel and Fetch has Hotels.com and Airbnb GC.

Mrs. Vig has managed to earn enough points for a Hotels.com GC worth $50 so far.

Not the fastest or most lucrative way to earn rewards, but if it helps her participate more in the rewards game, then I'm not gonna rain on her parade.

Another 5 night stay in Raleigh NC. Next week I'll be in Danville VA. Although Danville is not a mecca for excitement, the change of scenery and environment will be nice.

The Choice Privileges points are adding up nicely, and it's only January.

Adding Fetch Rewards to my list of dumpster diving for points. Will use the points for Hotels.com gift cards.

In my travels up and down the interstates, I've noticed a brand of hotels by Hospitality International, that look like questionable, third world lodging possibilities. Never stayed in any of these places. Might have to give them a try when convenient to do so. Some locations are in the sub $60/Night price range.

I hit a little pay dirt this morning on Fetch. Not bad for one Gatorade from a gas station, and two hash browns from McDonalds.

Yes, the exterior of this hotel suite is exactly the same as the organization and layout of the Travelodge at Los Angeles International Airport where I lived (it was demolished due to its dilapidated structure). The entrance to the right door is the bathroom. Next to the bed are two bedside chests (nightstands) with lights, and the headboard faces the dressing table. The desk drawer in the upper right corner of the room by the window. The price per day is between $165-$175 plus an additional parking fee of $10 payable to the hotel.

My location obviously was cheaper.  $89 per night. Free parking. Normally they have a decent breakfast offering. However, like most places it's grab-n-go right now.

If you have a car rental service that suits your travel itinerary, I agree to pay $89 per night in a large suite, even if such a hotel is located in a rural area, because it is cheaper than an ordinary two-star hotel in an ideal location.

I was overpaying at the LAX Travelodge, to articulate the depiction, it in a not so good gesture would be a "scam" word.

It's rare that I get rental cars. 97% of my transportation is in my company car.

Well, I think you and CV need high-end credit cards  :D (haha...not high annual fee credit cards), because you both often travel between states by plane, train, and vehicle. Gosh, finding a hotel is a challenge, yes, especially for people who are strangers for the first time. However, many people like to travel from one place to another, as an occupation they are very excited, enthusiastic, and full of positive expectations to visit new places. Besides, it is easy to get these points and miles by swiping your card, and soon you can collect unlimited cashback and mileage points. Now, for this kind of job to work, you need several Prime Level 1 credit cards. However, if you want to live in a budget hotel (not a slump hotel) like me, COMFORTINN® or ECONOLODGE® will do well. You can perfectly use the Choice Hotel Special Credit Card to pay for the service.

After being home for a week in Charlotte, it’s back to Raleigh next week. Will stay at my usual Econo Lodge. Will be using my Amex green instead of my Choice Visa. Waiting on a replacement from Barclays. I wore the other one out. Seems to happen once a year.

When the contract needs to be renewed, I may close my American Express personal card, :D  haha... It seems that I did not get enough privileges to pay the $150 annual fee. If I spend $50K on the card during the upcoming holidays (air tickets, hotels, car rentals), I'll gladly pay my due.   :)
