I would advise against just sock-drawering the AXP card...give it a fair amount of activity.  Remember that use does not require one to carry balances...

Interesting. I have a discover card that I still use; Do you mean credit utilization in general as in any card, or do you mean this moreso as just being against the idea of sockdrawing a card to begin with?

1) You want ALL cards to have some manner of activity every few months to avoid closure/CLD for non-use

2) Focus would normally be to put bulk of spending on a card where you reap the most rewards

however...

3) You did just get AXP to let you back in the door...show them a little love and they are more likely to reward you down the road.

just remember that using a card does not mean you have to pay a penny of interest!!!

Thank you, this is good to know. I'll throw a few streaming subs on there then.

And haha, thank you. Reiterate that interest as often as you can, because I got that "advice" of gathering interest for years. I never listened to it though. The sad thing is I know exactly what to do to build good credit because I had great credit, the issue was I sacrificed it. The issue is I don't know how to build it up quickly now that I have charge offs and all of that.

I agree with centex. Use the Amex
They let you back in, and if you show them that you are a valuable (profitable) customer, they will allow you to get their other cards in the future. Not using the card won’t accomplish this.
I’d recommend using the Amex as your main card. Each time you use the card, Amex collects a transaction fee from the merchant. That makes you profitable. Pay in full every month without being late. That shows you’re responsible.
Use the discover for any purchases that fall into the quarterly 5% cash back categories.
