My Amex Everyday Card Preferred sign up bonus pts were added to my card yesterday. The sign up bonus for at least $1K spend within three months is 15K additional points. It's on their website and I confirmed it with Amex over the phone. In the fine print bonus pts will not increase or apply to 50% more pts if you make 30 or more purchases within a statement period. They added 25K pts instead! I'll gladly take the extra 10K pts. Just hope they don't correct later.  Has that ever happened to anyone before?

These points have been added because of an offer or qualifying purchases made.

Literally just got off the phone with AmEx because apparently their referral linking is offline? I was trying to refer my mom to an AmEx EveryDay.

This is a 101 question but I feel like BCP is better value for me than BCE, but PC means no welcome bonus, right? I asked, but I feel like the answer wasn't very clear. She did say I could PC to Cash Magnet or BCE if I wanted to, and both BCP and Cash Magnet have welcome offers.

At some point if I use a BT card I'd like the EveryDay, and if I can't get the welcome bonus I should perhaps max out the $6000 cap anyway before upgrading. There is so much math involved here.

The rep also said that because they extended things by three months they're cutting back on a lot.

What does BCP and BCE stand for?

Blue Cash Preferred and Blue Cash Everyday cards are cash rewards cards whereas the Everyday Card and the Everyday Preferred cards earn rewards. If you want to PC you can only product change cash rewards to another cash rewards and points earning to another points earning card.

Thanks- the cards I would like to have when indicated are:

  • The Amazon Business AmEx which is currently in recon limbo, but I froze all three reports today so IDK what's going to happen- I think I made a pretty good case on the recon line I called, but they still had to pass it over for review so I'm not sure about what happens now.
  • BCP (but I have BCE), because I do spend enough on groceries to make the eventual AF worth it. I think I can PC BCE to BCP,  but the rep said I can PC to Cash Magnet or BCP. BCP and Cash Magnet have SUBs, and I don't think you get the SUB if you PC, right? So I have to figure out if I want to eventually app BCP and keep both, or PC the BCE to Cash Magnet? I don't actually need Cash Magnet for any reasons I can think of.
  • EveryDay if I end up using a BT card, and it also has a SUB. It looks great and it also has a SUB

Generally I really only want three AmEx cards specifically, but if I apply separately for a BCP I think I'd be eligible for a SUB whereas I wouldn't if I PC, so then it leaves a sort of useless BCE. I still really, really want the Amazon one to move my spending there, and EveryDay is probably third?

I am not a novice on subs. I barely got my toes wet with my Amex Everyday Preferred. Others on Creditboards know way more than I do.

You would upgrade the BCE to the BCP. See if you have an upgrade offer. They should be able to tell you if you’ll qualify for the bonus. Amex has some pretty tight rules on SUBs.

If the Cash Magnet is really of no use to you why bother with it at all.

Thanks and this is for Smartypretty.

Thanks.

The only reason I considered the Cash Magnet was if it was somehow better to apply and get the SUB for the BCP- but there might be an upgrade offer that's similar and/or would prevent me having to have a fairly useless card?

IDK how spend tracking works in that product family, but the pandemic has really pushed grocery spending up for me, in an expensive area. So today I spent over $350 ($380, it was $380) in one bifurcated trip, and average about $1200 a month in groceries. I could cap or close to cap BCE spending, and then get 6% back on the BCP.

When you say they're strict with SUBs, do you mean that they wouldn't want me to have both cards because one has a SUB

Thank you, I'm just trying to understand if it's a) ideal to upgrade and forgo the SUB/ask about an upgrade offer or b) I can only upgrade, not app for the BCP later.

Another bonus to upgrading is that I'd be able to earn the 6% right away, it would just cap at $6K.

Thank you, sorry for the questions :) If the best thing to do is upgrade, I could do that tonight, and it would be easier. It's just a very attractive SUB.

You can only get the SUB on each Amex card once. So if you get the SUB on a BCP now, you can’t ever get it again. Even if you close your account and wait 10 years. But you can still get it on every card they offer. You just can’t have more than 5 of their credit products open at a time.
Also, they are strict about MS on a SUB. Don’t do it or they’ll claw back the bonus.

This is currently/generally true for blind apps, but not for targeted offers.  Make sure you read the offer terms, of course.

Thank you.

Since AmEx extended their SUB three months, I wouldn't have to MS on it. But if I call and ask to upgrade, then do they still offer the SUB? I googled around a bit, and I saw that sometimes they target you with an upgrade offer; I have not been targeted. It looks like they do it later in the year.

If I want the SUB, I have to wait til my score bounces back, but I can also theoretically max out the 3% and then use the 6% on grocery spend - my biggest category. I think BCP also is 6% on streaming, which is like $130 a month for me since I canceled cable, which might itself cover the AF (the grocery 6% is a lot too).

This is probably a basic 101 question, but the SUB is good -- $250 -- so I'd probably want to wait and app for it later, unless they give me the SUB to upgrade. I have an upgrade invite in my email from last July but it's expired and it doesn't mention SUB

Thank you :)
