If you’re a frequent traveler, then you may one day run into an offer for a souvenir passport stamp. Antarctica offers a stamp at some of its scientific stations, Machu Picchu offers a stamp at the entrance of the Inca ruins, and the town of Llanfairpwllg

The article mentions that the souvenir stamps may make your passport invalid.  I do have one in my previous passport from Liechtenstein.  The tourist office stamped it for me.  Obviously they don't have border guards with guns ready to shoot you as you drive in from Switzerland.  It never caused an issue, but if you have some passport inspector ready to enforce the tiniest of rules, maybe it could.

I got stopped once entering the ROK for not signing my passport even though I had used it for 5 years and no other immigration authority noticed. SAD!

One of the Bahamian ports has a novelty passport stamp, I got my passport stamped and never had an issue.   Honestly, no one has really ever looked at my other stamps that closely.
