Got an email from Choice today. They are extending an olive branch to us Diamond Elites.

Diamond Elite status is extended through December 31st 2021

Diamond Elites get a 60% point bonus on all stays through December 31st 2020

Until now, I've never really cared to much about the status, I've always been more concerned with maximizing points earning with the brand.

I've got overnight travels starting up in a couple of weeks. Thank you Choice Hotels!!!!

Random redemption thoughts.....

It seems many Cambria properties are only wanting 20k points per night currently in major metropolitan areas, where as lesser  Choice properties in same area are asking 30k per night.

I have a $200 travel credit now available on my Amex platinum. Must use on amextravel.com, and by Dec 31st 2020. I found a crap hole motel in Myrtle Beach on amextravel for $35/night. Not sure yet though if I will go that route or put it towards a flight somewhere.

Some upcoming trips, not totally related to Choice Privileges.

Amtrak

Day trip between Charlotte and Raleigh next week. This will be DW first time on Amtrak.

October we will be in Philly for a week. Taking Amtrak there and back. 10 hours in coach each way. Hotel will be at Choice property, using points.

Paid for the train tickets with my Amtrak Guest Rewards MC. No AF version.

Myrtle Beach
Next week for 3 nights. Polynesian Oceanfront Hotel. Hotel Booked via amextravel.com at $41 a night. Uses some of the $200 travel credit Amex gave some of us Platinum holders for not cancelling because of COVID-19 travel restrictions. I've stayed at the hotel before. Very no frills. Never had issues. Every few years they put a fresh coat of lipstick on the old pig.

The Amtrak trips having nothing to do with a fear of flying due to COVID-19. It's something we've had on our travel radar for awhile.

I took the Amtrak from Old Town, San Diego to Valencia, CA.  It was so beautifully scenic. Right up against the Pacific Ocean along Laguna Beach. Love taking the train.
