It's his decision, but inflation, medical insurance, a huge unexpected expense, etc., can take a big chunk, or wipeout his savings quick. I wouldn't apply his "health benefits" of retiring that early to all situations.

He had issues with his job. I accept that, but hating your job doesn't mean you have to retire. Find another place to work.
