Good-bye ATMS and subprime cash

Recommended Posts

San Diego County Credit Union is paying actual money to the SAN Airport to advertise that you can use their web site to find surcharge-free ATMs.

As much as I would like to think we could get there, I don't think we will ever get to a truly cashless society, at least not in my lifetime, but you never know.  I would be willing to bet someone 40 years ago said we would never be able to get rid of payphones, but those are almost non-existent at this point.

As long as there are casinos and strip bars, cash is not going anywhere...

Admittedly, without poker, I would not have near the need for cash that I do in the present day...and this reminds me that I need to make sure my bank can handle a large withdrawal in hundred dollar bills- World Series is about to kick off.  Hege needs to watch out as I descend upon his stomping grounds LOL!

I thought about this too, but I can easily see them moving to some type of cashless in these casinos as well.  I mean at the casino, you can already go cashless by taking a marker...so why couldn't they figure out a way to "buy" chips with a direct withdrawal from your bank account for those unable/unwilling to submit to credit check/qualifications.

The strip club may present a larger hurdle...maybe you can find a slot to swipe your card???

Sadly, one cannot use a marker at the poker table.  And they get pissy when you take out $10K against a marker but don't use it in the pits...

That being said, I was actually pleased to hear from the PHo tournament director that they had taken the required steps to allow entries in their Series this summer to be paid for using a credit card.  Like the WSOP registrations at The Rio, you still have to suck up the 2.5% processing fee, but it is not something that cannot be recovered on the rewards.  It also cuts down on JUST how much cash I need to carry out there with me...

I'm leaving the strip club question alone...just backing away slowly LOL!

True, but in my scenario you would get your chips at the cage via direct debit and then take them to the poker table.  I would think you can do the same with a marker, but am not a poker player so I am not sure.

The SC comment is similar to a great joke...unfortunately it is no where near close to appropriate for an open forum  :)

Aside from the above establishments, there are plenty of others that restrict the use of cards, or are outright cash only businesses. As such, cash and ATM's are not going anywhere.

I think CTSoxFan is right. I don't see the US getting to a cashless society.
