American Express "member since" date

Recommended Posts

I recall from a few years back that folks who had once upon a time had an Amex card were able to get a new one, with it reporting the original card's issue date. Wondering if this is still possible (did a search but got pretty deep without finding anything on the topic) and if so, how do you go about it? And how far back will they go?

Fourteen years after BK7 I've got an EXP FICO of 761. There's more credit card debt than I'd like (we used it heavily to start a business) but that's getting paid down. The only other factor holding me back would seem to be the average age of accounts, with the oldest only being 12 years (I'm 50+.)

So, can this be done? And preferably with a no-annual-fee card?

My original Amex was not included in BK, but was closed by them when I carried a balance on a card that was supposed to be paid in full every month. There was no charge off; the balance was paid. It might have been a green card, but I'm thinking Optima or something like that. (Talking 30 years ago.)

Amex no longer backdates for reporting purposes (member since has nothing to do with CRA reporting).

Thanks. That's really what I meant (just trying for something simple for title, but you're right.)

I have 2 "backdated" Amices (1982 dated tradelines) that I'll be forever loathe to part with now:  an Amex Clear, and an Amex Delta ($95 annual fee).

A 3rd card (Amex Gold Premier Rewards) was closed in 2009.  It'll be rolling off in September.  😪

I have three back dated to my pre BK days. They will be buried with me.

I have four from 1969. I was never on any cards and got my first one when I appd for the four. Go figure. I was under 30 when I got them so it definitely helped. Will likely be buried with them also

Exactly.  I wish D* was still around.
