Sidewinder
Hello forum members. I trust that with my recent travels having wrapped up, each and every last one of you has now added "'Nokomis Station', Minneapolis, Minn", "'General Mail Facility', Erie, Penn.", and "'Capitol', Albany, N.Y." to your List of Post Offices Sidewinder Has Mailed Things From. One of these events furthermore requires you to add "New York's" to your List of Architecturally Significant State Capitol Buildings That Contain Sidewinder-Utilized Post Offices. Of course, if you had designed your database optimally in the first place, using widely available data on which post offices are in which capitol buildings, then the second list would have updated automatically after the first update was committed. (Really, I'm not sure why you make all this extra work for yourself.)

Sidewinder
And then yesterday I was in downtown St. Paul and mailed my Eddie Bauer cc payment from the St. Paul Main yes MAIN post office on East 5th Street. So... that happened. (You heard me.) hegemony

Sidewinder
Ahem. On Tuesday, May 21st, I, Sidewinder, mailed my Sunoco® credit card payment from the "Hugh Gregg Post Office" on Spring Street in Nashua yes NASHUA, New Hampshire. I put the name "Hugh Gregg Post Office" is in quotation marks because this is not that post office's official name; not going by either the Locations search on usps.com (where it is listed as being named "NASHUA") nor atop the receipt I got for the three domestic money orders I bought there (there, too, this post office identifies itself as being called "NASHUA," see.) Yet there is a sign right the hell outside above the entrance to the building that says "Hugh Gregg the hell Post Office" so what is up with that. Post-office-naming disorientation aside, this is still a decent American post office and one I am glad to have on my List of Post Offices I've Mailed Things From. I hope you are glad to have it on your List of Post Offices Sidewinder Has Mailed Things From, too. And that's not all!! On Wednesday, May 22nd, I, Sidewinder, mailed my Sinclair® yes SINCLAIR OIL® charge card payment from the post office in Somersworth, New Hampshire. That there post office is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, which makes it especially appropriate that I used it to mail a remittance to an historic American company. Sunoco too can be argued to be an historic company; but in any case the Sunoco payment actually goes to Citibank. Gross. The Sinclair payment goes to the actual historic enterprise that is Sinclair Oil. Plus it's quite a trek from Somersworth yes SOMERSWORTH, New Hampshire - right there on the Maine state line - to Salt Lake City, reminiscent of the days of wagon trains and the Pony Express. I feel rather good about having visited the Somersworth post office, and having utilized it to mail a payment both historic-like and exhilaratingly westward. Two. Two new post offices, in one week. Not too shabby. Edited May 28, 2019 by Sidewinder StarkRaven$ and hegemony

Sidewinder
On Monday, I, Sidewinder, mailed my Sunoco® credit card payment from the Prudential Center post office in... well, the Prudential Center, in Boston. See, it's one of those way-too-new, blue-formica countertopped, featureless, storefront post offices. In a shopping center. Earlier that day I bought a new charging cable for my phone so you can, if you wish, add "Boston Packards Corner" to your List of Target stores Sidewinder has patronized. (Monday was a boring day, especially considering I was out of state.)
Sidewinder
...but this past Monday, see, I got to make my first-ever use of the Watkins yes WATKINS, MINNESOTA 55398 post office, whence I mailed my State Farm VISA payment (to Columbus, Georgia). Sidewinder
Welp. I'm not sure how I fell so far behind on this, but last February I had occasion to drive from North Haven, Connecticut (gross) to the Boston area, and in so doing I got to mail my Bank of America Visa type payment from the Ansonia yes ANSONIA post office, which was built in 1914 and became the 14th entry on my List of NRHP-Listed Post Offices I Have Mailed Things From: (I'm not sure I uploaded the photo to imgur correctly, so... bear with me here...) EDIT: Ok, looks good on my laptop. The upload, that is. Much as I love historic archimatecture, I have to raise a concern about this building's front door. It looks more like a 1962 thing than a 1914 thing, and I thought NRHP-listed properties had to obey rules about these kinds of things. : / Edited May 9, 2020 by Sidewinder Kat58
StarkRaven$
I see these little signs displayed on historical sites. Makes me smile. Have you seen them?
Sidewinder
See, on the same February trip to New England I also utilized the Cohasset post office. Cohasset is an important town to me, I went to a beach party there when I was 16. Hotnessopolis. (Probably didn't envision that I wouldn't return to Cohasset for a couple of decades and then only to mail a check to Toyota Financial Services : / )
Sidewinder
Finally catching up on this topic See, on February 25, 2020, I mailed my Sinclair payment from the post office in Buffalo, Minn. I like the clean lines and bricks' elegant shade: Days later (March 9th), finding myself in the suburbs of Boston's Nahth Shah, I was once again able to give each of you just cause to expand your List of NRHP-Listed Post Offices Sidewinder Has Mailed Things From. I mailed my Cenex/CHS credit card payment from this here Beaux Arts-Neoclassical number in the city of Beverly, Massachusetts. I always like a good colonnade: (More updates to come.) Sidewinder
A day or two after visiting the Beverly post office (see above), I drove a little bit out to Nahant, where I ...uh, used their post office. Ordinarily I am bothered when I see a post office that isn't a standalone building. I find this even more bothersome in a rural environment, wherein post offi are supposed to be singularly important nodes in the townscape, both architecturally and socially. Most of the botheringly building-sharing post offices are ultra-modern, blue-formica countertopped carbuncles in strip malls (found one just north of Hampton Hills, N.H. this past weekend and one south of Daytona about a year ago. Gross). This here Nahant type post office is not so encumbered; the building actually has a distinctly New England charm, and the only other establishment in the building is a mom-and-pop bodega, not some gross chain restaurant or check-cashing store. I believe then that we are all required to doff our hats to the Nahant, Massachusetts post office for disorienting no less august a post office guide and critic than I, Sidewinder, and for showing me up by disobeying my architectural & planning requirements with no reputational impact. There are so very few post offi that have done that. : / hegemony
Sidewinder
For reasons I shan't understand, the people of Waconia, Minnesota are OK with having a post office that looks like this (I think I mailed my CenterPoint Energy payment from there but... you know... mega-meh): Edited October 8, 2021 by Sidewinder

(Probably didn't envision that I wouldn't return to Cohasset for a couple of decades and then only to mail a check to Toyota Financial Services : / ) I'm browsing this thread for the first time, and was surprised to find this ... Having bought a home in Cohasset in Dec 2019 with plans to move from GA and then waylaid by Covid, Bev's office closing and her decision to rejoin me in GA, Bev subsequently getting Covid, my getting Covid 2-mo later (we seldom left home, and never without masks ... thank god neither of us suffered respiratory problems!), and then Bev suffering from an autoimmune disease this year (CIPD) that has caused a devastating loss of muscle tissue, with extended infusion therapy treatment now on the horizon, we have yet to make the move (Nov/Dec???). I returned from a caretaker visit at the end of September. The house is lonely, but in great shape. My avatar photo is of a nearby beach (occasionally I swap out a couple of photos from the 112 acre Wheelwright Park & Barnes Wildlife Sanctuary whose entrance is a 1/2 mi down the road from us -- LOTS of hiking trails). Sidewinder
On July 6 of 2020 I mailed my credit card payment to State Farm Bank from the post office in Hutchinson, Minnesota. This was the first time I'd ever set foot in McLeod County. The post office opened in 1941 and has been "Designated Significant by Historic Hutchinson" but the plaque doesn't say when this designation was given. : /
Sidewinder
In August of 2020 I mailed my Sinclair payment from the historic post office in downtown Menomonie, Wisconsin (see).
Sidewinder
Catching up again... After the confusingly NRHP-designated Menomonie post office, these additions seem apropos: First, the featureless one in Hamel. I hadn't heard of the existence of Hamel till I turned on to that little roadlet off of 55 in Medina that you take to get to the Aldi. Mere curiosity took me up the hill and the first thing I saw to my left was... Not sure if it can even be said to belong to an "architectural style." It reminds me a little bit of the house on Ozark. It puts things into perspective as to the Menomonie one being listed on the NRHP. You know what's not listed on the NRHP? This one: Located a block away from the genuinely endearing historic district of Red Wing, Minnesota, this. Post office. Is not. Listed. On. The National. Register. What. Is up. With that. hegemony
Sidewinder
See, a couple of Octobers ago I traveled to Daytona Beach and thereat had the opportunity to visit what I quickly came to suspect is our nation's most beautiful still-functioning post office: That damnably modern sign shouldn't be anywhere in the tableau, let alone front and center, but there it is. Nice going. Still, let us be grateful that the building still stands (we've lost too many beauties in this country). Sidewinder
On my way out to Hutchinson a couple of years ago I drove over the Meeker County line west of Cokato into the little incorporated town of Dassel and discovered this post office here on US Highway 12. I mailed my Nordstrom account payment from here; it was my first time mailing the payment to Columbia, South Carolina. All previous payments had been sent to Phoenix. (This wasn't the first time I'd sent mail to the Palmetto State though; as you are all acutely aware, I once sent a money order to pay for some Cisco memory modules I'd bought on eBay from a fellow in Sumter.) I like the shade of the bricks. Edited November 21, 2023 by Sidewinder
Sidewinder
Given the signage, it doesn't quite need saying that this one is in Wenham, Massachusetts, but this one is in Wenham, Massachusetts. Which, is on what they call the North Shore (or more commonly, the Nahth Shah) Mailed my cah registration renewal from there, this was actually a coupla Septembiz ago.
