Got the Mustang parked in the driveway for the past 6 months.  Started it every now and then to make sure she still starts.  But been driving the electric car around everywhere, and I love not having to pay for gas.  :) 2015 Nissan Leaf.

I get about 46 miles to 60% battery charge.  Top up the battery at Nissan to 80% then drive home  ~47 mile drive to work then same back to work.

Mustang roughly got 13-18 mpg in the city and 23 on highway.

When wife got below 10 when she drove it.  :P

I'm not making the jump to electric for the foreseeable future. When the convenience equals that of ICE sure. Until then, nah. Not worth it. Especially when the environmental impacts of electric vs ice are still relatively unknown. Most electricity is still derived from fossil fuels and will be for the foreseeable future. And electric cars are just soulless appliances.

Oh i don't care what the impacts are, just my wallet at the moment :)  Costs me about 5$ to drive that car a month vice the $300+ to drive the Mustang.

Not a viable option for me until they come up with something that actually has some RANGE and that can be recharged for another four hundred miles in the same couple of minutes it takes to fill a gas tank.

Gas does have its convenience which is why a hybrid is typically best for those not wanting to fully commit to an electric.   My main concern for the electrics..  They are Hideous!  :P  Make a sexy looking car, I mean the only good looking ones out atm are the Porsche and the Tesla.

Two Main reasons you dont see the 400 mil range is $$$ and weight.

We have Hybrid and LEV parking at work with charging ports. They're some of the first spots in the row along with the handicap spots. But the Tesla cult parks together, in the spots furthest away from everyone else. Meanwhile, I park my big thirsty Flat6 in the hybrid parking because no one else uses it and I'm lazy 🤣

I might get a Rivian once they are out. I have thought about selling my daily driver and just relying on my two classics (one of which gets 6.5 MPG and one gets 11) and Uber. That would save about $1000 in insurance a year and given how little I drive, the lower MPG of the classics is moot.

The Rivian R1T looks Awesome.    https://rivian.com/r1t/

It has your 400 Mile range Bad Doctor Frost  I just don't think the charge back up to 100% is for you.  You would charge at home for most part, as  Electrics are not really meant for cross country.

My 67 Dart is collecting dust and rot as it just sits on my father-n-laws property.  We are starting some body work on it though.  Original slant 6 in it.  Can't kill that thing!

Their credit card rate is lower than their auto loan rate

Honestly, this happened to an ex wife of a buddy of mine. She graduated with her nursing degree and had TERRIBAD credit. She got one of those mailers from the local GM/Nissan/Hyundai dealer that said "You can be approved for a new car!" and , naturally, she fell for it. She was a nurse now. She deserved a new car. So, he gets a call from her, saying to pick her up at the dealer. He said not to sign ANYTHING until he got down there. When we got down there, the damage was done. Eight year old Saturn Outlook with 80K miles, 24.99% interest rate, 60 months. Her payments were around $400/month....on a $13K car....for 5 years. I wonder what ever happened to her.

Being tempted by the new commercials for the Aston Martin lease at $1699/month.  They are one of the few companies that still produces a true three-pedal manual, not putting out some paddle-shifted crap and calling it manual.

I've got no desire to pay $200K for the Vantage AMR but at $1700 a month, I am seriously tempted to have a few years of fun...

Usually the advertised offers require a large CCR, almost zero miles, or both.

There have been a handful of attractive Aston lease deals on Leasehackr recently.  I'll keep an eye open if you're seriously interested.

Here's the most recent one:

2020 Aston Martin Vantage NEW
MSRP 172k
5k Due at Signing
1414+Tax
36/7500
With Conquest

Not sure if it's a manual, and this broker is in CA, but it's a useful reference point.

Yeah, know about the low miles element, but this wasn't going to be daily driver anyhow...even the F-Type is only out a few days per week.  The local offer only required first month and taxes/registration at delivery.

Houston has one of the so-called HALO offerings (59 total) but that BRG and yellow just doesn't do much for me and is begging to be pulled over for being somewhat beyond the posted speed limits...Austin has a more demure color combination, to the extent that 500+ HP can be 'demure.'  The pearl white exterior is nice in that it doesn't scream out to the po-po, but that black interior is not exactly Texas summer-friendly...

Both are AMR offerings.

As I look at some of the discussions, it looked like the current "special" is not dissimilar from what Aston Martin ran towards the end of last year, so I am not overly concerned about having to get a deal done today.

Being you're in Texas, how do you typically handle the taxes on your leases? Do you push for credits? Are credits even available on everything?

That is something I couldn't give an answer to since I have never before leased...this would be a first.  My understanding is that tax is collected in the same fashion as any other vehicle purchase, which is final net price.  If a vehicle is ever sold, the next purchase then pays sales tax on the net price of THAT sale...and so on down the life of the vehicle.  They did change things a few years back to where tax on a used vehicle is keyed to an 80% of the presumptive valuation, but still 6.25% of the price.

Registration renewals for passenger cars are basically $45-75 per year depending on which County you are in...the bridge fees will run a few bucks more in some jurisdictions and there is also some differential based upon age of the vehicle.

See, this is what makes Texas weird in that regard. You're right, in Texas, you pay tax on the full price of the car. In most states, you pay tax only on the monthly payment. Because of this, leases in Texas are much more expensive and you're able to, in some cases, get tax credits to reduce the cost. However, I have no idea how this tax credit thing works. It may only be on undesirable models or models the dealer is having trouble moving, I'm not completely sure. I always thought it was crazy that you're charged tax on the full price of it since you're only paying a fraction of it.

Well, most people seem never to buy and keep, so it isn't any different in a sense from those who buy something new every couple of years and never pay it off.  At least the tax is not keyed to MRSP like in some States...it is keyed to the negotiated net price after any and all credits have been applied.  When I bought the F-Type, it stickered north of $90K but the selling price was only $60K and it was the $60K that I paid tax on, not sticker.  Tag renewal a few months ago was $75 or so...inspection that is required annually adds another $18 and change.
