The Car Thread

As I type this, the title for the Prius is being exchanged for a stack of $100s at the buyer's bank.

When is it safe to cancel the insurance on the vehicle?

In addition to the state paperwork we also prepared a simple sales contract which will have TAD's and the buyers' original signatures, and of course we're keeping the plates and registration form.

We'll obviously have the cash and we don't want the car back... so I'm not concerned about collision or vandalism, I'm concerned about liability.

So, the car is not being used?

And it is effectively being put in some kind of bank lot for assets? Sounds like you used it as collateral on a loan instead of outright sale?

No, this is a simple private party sale from my spouse to a married couple.  He owns the car/has the title.

The buyers are withdrawing the money from their bank account this morning.  Everyone is meeting at their bank, where they need to go anyway to get the cash, to sign the papers and trade the title/keys for the money.

A lot of State's have a form that can be completed online to confirm that you no longer own the vehicle.  This ensures you don't get the toll violation notices or other issues if the new owner does not promptly register the vehicle in their own name...

And yes, it has saved me in the past...a vehicle I sold in Austin somehow wound up not only with multiple parking tickets in Houston but apparently was also towed as abandoned.  I was actually tempted to go find where it was to be auctioned since it was not a horrible vehicle and I had very little in it (originally a storage auction for $200 that was to have been first car for the ex's kid).  It was a front-engine, mounted correctly, with the rear-wheel drive and an interior that was not beat to hell...biggest issue was a hit that it had taken in the front but not something that rendered it incapable of being driven or passing an inspection.  For another few hundred and a trailer, I could have potentially had it back for less than I paid in the beginning (I already made money on the sale, even accounting for the new fender and the replacement head assembly I somehow sourced for $30 just in case it became necessary).

You are no longer an owner.  Call the insurance company.

Thanks.  I found the form... we'll fill it out and mail it in today, and I'll cancel the insurance.

well I feel defeated. Great weather finally so I thought I'd take each set of wheels out but alas my favorite needs me to change the fuel pump... at least it gives me something constructive to do this afternoon.

Hopefully it is one of the easier ones that takes about five minutes, counting the clean-up...I always liked so many of the older Ford V8's where it was two bolts and then reconnecting the fuel line.  And the bolts were accessible without all manner of contortions...

I helped a buddy change the fuel pump in his Honda Accord. Dropping the tank was required. That was fun.

Introduce her to CreditBoards

This is just one of several sob stories from people who contacted us about buying the Prius.

Most of the people who contacted us wanted to buy the car for almost nothing, because they were using it to do something for their church, for starving orphans, syphilitic priests, or some other nonsense reason that must have worked on one person, one time.

Speaking of Prii...

The parking lot at work has 4 motorcycle spots in each row. Yesterday, a Prius parked in one of the cycle spots. A motorcycle parked next to it in the other cycle space, but parked so close, there was no way Mr Prius was getting his driver's door open. It was beautiful. I'm convinced Prius owners are a few fries short of a happy meal. I've yet to find one who isn't an idiotic, entitled oaf.

Oh! Nonsense! Did you get the one from the wheelchair-bound disabled person that lives somewhere and wants to buy a car for his son, and will send you a certified fake logo Moneygram Money Order, FedExed overnight to your address for $4000 or whatever amount if you would be so gracious and kind in bad grammar one long run-on sentence, so reputable it goes straight to the Spam folder?

How many offered you $50?

How many offered you a car stereo, a Playstation 3 and some more car speakers and stereo equipment in lieu of actual payment, people love to steal these ?

The time I sold a car on eBay years ago I put on the ad "Cash only. No money orders or bank drafts in excess of agreed purchase price. No Princes from Nigeria. I will be armed when the transaction finalizes"

I got a nasty email calling me a racist pig. I replied back "SOOOOOOOO-WHHHEEEEEEE!!!!"

Gotta say that, outside of a classic that I couldn't move through Hemmings, fleabay is the last place I would try to sell...their fees are more than I want to pay on a sale of a vehicle.

Other than that...you clearly reached one of the perpetually offended with your listing LOL!

Could the author quit having an orgasm long enough to objectively review this vehicle? Oh wait the author is probably being paid by Nissan to write the glowing review.

For 2019, Nissan rolled out the Leaf Plus, a version of the EV that could achieve more than 200 miles on a single charge.

That 200-mile number is magical; it eliminates much of the "range anxiety" that consumers suffer from because it adds a 50-mile buffer and reduces the need to frequently recharge the Leaf.

However, there remains one glaring fault with the Leaf, and it's the range. At 151 miles, it's certainly a major improvement over the outgoing model. But range anxiety is still a problem, and anything less than 200 miles on a single charge is no longer competitive.

Oh any by the way .... you're still burning coal!
