hdporter
No new rumors on the banking front from the direction of Omaha today. FRC took another dive today; if it gets into the single digits I'll jump back in with double the share purchase.

Nah, you buy more so that if the stock claws back a little gain, you can focus on how smart you were to buy in at that price (putting your "out of the money" purchase thoroughly out of mind ...) Of course, you need to make the additional purchase at a price so low, "it couldn't possibly go lower" hegemony
hdporter
Ended my 1-1/2 year flirtation with NVDA (Nvidea) Monday. I tepidly jumped in Nov '21 with a purchase of 50 shares @ $314, encouraged by reporting of growing demand for high performance computing. I was one day short of buying into its peak price of $329 :(. The shares progressively slumped thereafter, bottoming out at $112 eleven months later. As has been my style, I chased the loss by buying 100 shares in Jul '22 at $163. Unlike the case with DOCU and FVRR, in this instance the stock didn't proceed to endlessly tank. Instead, I was able to sell 25 shares @ $203, 80 @ $238, and 45 @280. A $4700 gain isn't a life-changing win. But turning around what was a $20k loss as of Nov '22 to a profit 6 months later that reflects a 15% annualized return on my average investment assures me in the truth of the adage, "even a blind squirrel can find a nut" (Note, a prior post commenting on a NVDA share sale "on the fly" incl some very "wonky" math ... I think I was only looking back 12 mo, thus the original share purchase was ignored, and only accounted for the 2nd one.) ------------ I've been impressed and encouraged that FRC has managed to largely stay above $13/sh this past month. If it does so for another month, I'm seriously going to think about another 1000 share purchase. Edited April 20 by hdporter
hdporter
After today, FRC is looking more and more like a simple crapshoot ... sigh. At least it's stop hemorrhaging depositors; just no indication of what, if anything, will draw people back in. In the interim, the have a lot of expensive infrastructure relative to the considerably reduced asset base. I don't know if you can shrink that down to something cost-effective without the handwriting going up on the wall that it's just a matter of time before they close up shop. hdporter
Well, I'm not going to say I wish I had gotten out when ... Once I bought in, I was committed. So this exercise was just one more reminder on how those "can't lose" / "it's just a bad turn, better snap something up" propositions can turn around and bite you HARD. It's just so damn sobering to see how billions can evaporate overnight ... <bring on the next bargain purchase opportunity!!> I'll feel better when NFLX breaks $400 ... gonna happen any day!! hdporter
2 hours ago, hegemony said: AXP Can't go wrong with blue chips?? Why AXP and why now?? My gut is taking me in the opposite direction. Picked up another 500 shares of FVRR yesterday $26 (boosting my hold by 50% ... I'm gonna "dollar average" this thing to the ground!). I had sold 200 shares in Feb @ $43, and had expected to sell more through the year. FVRR and DOCU are my two cess pits that I can't seem to get enough of. (Probably why I should stick to mutual fund investments!) Still, there are no real detractors from either of these companies (well, DOCU is suffering from introduction of competition, and some think that DOCU saw it's heyday during Covid). FVRR has been showing respectable top and bottom line growth. Investors apparently fear that should we ultimately see a hard recession, it'll be one of the first to fall. Sold my last 60 shares (of 200 share original purchase a year ago) @ $424 at market open today. This brings total proceeds on the 200 shares to $70k against a $40k purchase. Yes, even a blind pig finds a truffle .... (Wish I had acquired more up front, of course ... but I was holding out for a decent retreat. Instead the chart path this last year as been one of strictly "up, up and away".)
