For Supply Works I got the same email, but a couple days later I got a follow-up phone call requesting the docs.  So be on the look-out!  You applied for fuel cards before getting a paydex score?  ballsy!  I haven't applied for one yet because I was under impression you needed a paydex before they would approve.  All the applications ask how many vehicles you have and how much you spend on fuel.  Seeing as how I'm not a trucking company, I'm afraid they'd deny me if I just put 1 vehicle.

Thanks for the explanation!  I'm guessing this is more for banks and lending institutions than it is for store credit and net terms?

Yes. That's who would likely pull a report with that information.

I Basically just started my business in August. I don't know much about building business credit. I'm learning now and this site is helping. I applied for a Shell Fleet Card got denied for unsecured card but approved for unsecured card with a 500 deposit. I have Capital One Sparks Classic Business Card $2000 credit limit. I have net 30's with Summa, Strategic, Monopolize Your Market Place and Business T Shirt Club and they approved me for a $5000 credit line with them. None of them reported yet. I got denied by Quill and Uline but made purchases anyway so i can get approved at a later date. Now I'm a stand still. None reporting i don't know my next move. any suggestions or help will be greatly appreciated. I made those purchases and those credit lines late September early October.

Welcome. Did you make your initial purchases yet with the TLs you opened? If so, pay them according to terms established, let them report and follow up with Quill and Uline. You may want to check out the newbie threads to follow the paths of others. Right now you are establishing yoiur teir 1 TLs before you qualify for teir 2 apps. You can skip a step and PG if your personal credit is good and willing to go that route.

There's no set # per se however 5 reporting to DB / EX Biz is generally the guideline. If you PG the TLs you can go right to the next tier. Many other factors will come into play on approvals such as years in business, risk factor (business type), number of employees, monthly spend and so on. Depends on the vendor your applying for. As you read through the walk-throughs you'll start to get a sense of what to expect for each type of vendor.

Hey guys - I don't post much but figured I would kick it back up as I am starting to build my biz credit. My personal credit is fantastic and I've been using personal cards for business for years - so finally figured it was time to start down this path.

Here's what I opened this month for reporting:

Uline

NAV

BP Fleetcor ($1000 limit)

Summa (bought a $65 download)

Strategic (Just now bought $80 - thanks guys for posting this TL)

Quill (just applied for credit to buy HP printer ink hopefully approved)

Denied for Citi biz and Chase biz ( i have a long relationship with both banks so was kinda surprised)

I already have 2 BOA business credit cards $7500 each but from what I can tell - they do not report.

Hello all,

I want to first thank everyone for their input and tips which have been extremely informative and make us truly feel ahead of the game. I'm so thankful to be here and reading these amazing posts/replies! We're literally starting our business, and at the very beginning steps of building business credit. My wife and I have personal FICOs in the high 700s and low 800s, and we want to do everything correctly in order to get as many business credit accounts as possible, non-PG. (Our goal is to have credit lines and accounts established to fund as much as possible prior to physically opening our business)

So far we've:

Received an EIN

Filed Certificate of Formation (LLC) with SOS

Established Virtual Address (physical office/shared workspace)

Google my business

We're currently in the process of establishing:

Business website

Business email

Business phone# (411 Listed)

Business Bank Account

DUNS number

My main reason for this post is to time-stamp the beginning of our journey, so that we can share our success along the way. (Because I so enjoyed reading others') Because of you all, I feel comfortable enough and welcome any and all advice. For now my only question is...

Does anyone have any special advice for obtaining a DUNS number; other than using the D&B website?

Thanks in advance for your support and assistance.

To get a free Duns number just apply or set up a starter vendor account with Quill, Uline, Grainger and pay on time. That payment experience will auto generate a file with D&B as they report to them.

Great information here. I've had my own business for a few years, but it was only recently that I decided to file for an LLC and getting all that ready. I have two LLCs that are completely mine and already on record with the SOS.

There's also another one that I created with my dad, and so far, with net 30, I've been able to get approved for Summa Office Supplies at least. I have net 30 terms with Amazon Business, but found out that they don't report at all. I tried Quill, but they told me that I'd need to have the account open for a few months and make at least $100 in purchases online w/ business debit card, even though I did buy some envelopes with their net 30 invoicing. Grainger told me that I could apply after January 8th, and I wasn't as sure about Uline yet.

I tried for a few other net 30 accounts like from Office Depot and some fuel cards, but they were either denied or they wanted me to try a PG. I also did create my Dun and Bradstreet number a few days ago.

Where do you guys get all your startup money from? I'm operating on a shoestring budget and tired of these net30 accounts not reporting. I initially got info that I would need to spend ~ $50 at these places to get the net30s to start reporting. I've spent nearly $450 in the last 2-3 months at 6 different places and I only have 1 payment experience each at D&B, Equifax, Experian reported as an even $100 - won't tell me which company, but I suspect it's ULINE since the description says packaging, which I never payed anyone an even $100! It's a stupid joke that I'm so tired of.

I was able to do a net30 easy with Quill on my first order, then my 2nd order was denied by their credit department for net 30, they said they auto the first, but then check your business history before the second. I was told that each order would have to be at least $100. I then placed a debit card paid order to find out they sent out my previous order in addition to this new order. I was only charged about $25 on the debit card after assuming I paid just the whole amount for my new order. The rest of the two orders were then invoiced together. I know they are doing something very screwy here and it's really not helping me one way or the other!

Here's What I've got:

LLC is from March 2019

Quill 2 orders

Uline 1order

Grainger 1 order - had to call in

Summa Office Supplies 1 order

Nav 1payment for credit report subscription + tradeline reporting

Everyone says it's so easy to establish the net30s with each of these vendors, but the trick is you have to put up a lot of dough. I also know that these vendors charge more than many retail stores for the same items. I am willing to do what I need to do to get credit for my business not using a personal guarantee, but I wish I could know the exact formula.

I am further suspicious that the companies aren't taking me as seriously because I have my residence as the address for my LLC. Fact is, I don't need a brick and mortar to do business no matter how big I go. I also don't need the junk these starter vendors have - I don't need any of it. I guess we're still in the stone age of business and I just have to suck it up and follow what still works. I am contemplating updating to the virtual office and adding a business website to look more legit, but it seems like so much wasted money - antibusiness as far as my business plan needs go?

Sorry to vent, but I'm just calling it like it is to me...

Virtual office and website are DEFINITELY worth it. Even a private street address is also worth looking at if you don't have the money right now for a VO. That's what I did for one of mine and I just pay $60 every three months for it. For all my sites, I had to do them all myself, writing the content, SEO, designing the sites, etc, but it was worth it.

Don't skip out on those. And believe it or not, even having a toll free number can also make you look more credible for business credit and for your LLC as a whole though I'm still using just a Google Voice number for now. After you do all that, see if you can set up your Google My Business account and get your site listed on as many directories as you can. There's a service called Thryv that makes all this super easy that I just pay $59 a month for.

The trick with that though is that whatever address you use, the office has to be staffed and people have to be able to visit. Some virtual office companies have a lot of that available, but others are more bare bones and basic. Do your due diligence there and see what's right for you. Otherwise, you can get your listing suspended. You can also just use your residential address for now on that end, get it verified, and then change it to a service area until you're able to have the capital to rent an office or whatever, though in your case, you made it clear you don't need any brick and mortar stuff for your situation.

It's okay to put a little bit more investment there because once you start getting leads and stuff from your website and the marketing you do there, it will be even more feasible IMO to continue on with biz credit stuff.

Also make sure you actually have a company email (info@yourbusiness.com or something like that) and not just a Gmail or whatever. That's also very important not just in making your business even more credible to customers, but it just also makes you look better for business credit too. Hope this helps. I'm just beginning this biz credit journey, but learned a lot from trial and error and wanted to save you some time if I could.

I can't wait to hear all of your updates! It has been almost a year that this thread has been opened and I think I came some where around the  middle of it all. I am making slow, but nonetheless progress towards my business credit goals. So far I have:

Uline - Reporting

Quill -  Reporting

Summa - Reporting

Grainger - Will make first payment this month so hopefully it will start reporting for February

I will be adding these over the next 1-2 months:

HD Supply Works - approved for $1000

Strategic Network Solutions - $1000 Approval. Each time I try to place an order the site crashes on me. I Called, left a message no answer!

I am hoping to have atlease 5 to 6 before the end of March or if not sooner.

Hello Friends,

I have a few questions and they may be basic but I still get confused on the companies that are Tier 1 vs. Tier 2 vs. Tier 3.

Also how many Tier 1 accounts should you have reporting before going on to Tier 2 and so forth. Are fuel cards Tier 1, 2 or 3?

I am assuming - Quill, Uline, Grainger, Strategic Network Solutions, Summa, Monopolize are all Tier 1? Does anyone know if there are anymore Tier 1 Net 30 besides these that reports.

Tier 2 - Don't know who they are

Tier 3 - Don'e know who they are

I would say at least 3 for 90 days before you dabble at any harder ones.  What I did was setup 3 Cap 1 Sparks credit cards which instantly reported large balances to all 3 agencies.  Got approved for 10k and did a 10k job which took me 3 months to pay off.  But the 10k high limit posted asap which made getting approved for all of the others much easier.

Does anyone know if there are any credit applications that ask if you have a parent company?  I have several disregarded entities I'd like to build credit for and piggy back off of the parent.

Thanks Max! Hello All!!!

We've now established a strong business identity...

Questions:

Is there a special way we need to "apply" for Net 30 starter accounts?

Is it better to call and place the order vs. online?

Will they automatically invoice us, or do we have to request that?

Are there certain words to use and others to avoid using?

Will they be requesting our Business Bank info to start the account?

I just feel like we're walking into a loaded Canon, please help.

I welcome all who care to jump in. Thanks in advance!!!
