Amex SPG Spending Bonus Offer: Will I Ever See These Points?

Ts & Cs for spending offers and reality can be two different things.

 

If I close my SPG to avoid paying the next AF (which posts on or about 11/26/18), will I ever see these bonus points?  Ts & Cs suggests probably not, even if I wait until the last minute to cancel the card in time to avoid the AF.

 

I'm not paying $95 just to get 10,000 Marriott bonus points for spending that's already completed.

 

For spending offers does Amex generally post the bonus points shortly after the spending threshold is reached, or do they normally stay true to what the terms say?

Register and earn 6,000 bonus points after spending $2,000 in eligible purchases ("First Purchase Requirement") on your Starwood Preferred Guest^®Credit Card from American Express and earn an additional 4,000 bonus points after spending an additional $1,000 in eligible purchases on your Card ("Second Purchase Requirement") starting from the time you complete registration through November 30, 2018 ("Purchase Period"). You can earn a maximum of 10,000 bonus points. Registration period ends on October 31, 2018. If you reach one or both of the Purchase Requirements, the bonus points will be credited to your loyalty member account 2-4 weeks after December 10, 2018. This offer is only available to the Basic Card Member; however, eligible purchases made by Additional Card Members will contribute to the Purchase Requirements. Eligible purchases do NOT include fees or interest charges, balance transfers, cash advances, purchases of traveler's checks, purchases or reloading of prepaid cards, purchases of gift cards, person-to-person payments, or purchases of any cash equivalents. Eligible purchases to meet the Purchase Requirement are for goods and services minus returns and other credits.

To receive the bonus points, your Card Account must not be cancelled or past due at the time of fulfillment. American Express reserves the right to modify or revoke offer at any time. The bonus points you may earn during the Purchase Period as part of this offer are in addition to any other points you may get from using your Card. Time will tell on this one, but most of the points-related AXP bonus offers have posted soon after the spend threshold was satisfied.  I elected to use it for my car insurance, so I should know by mid-October if they are posting as quickly as the spend was met.  I don't usually pay the full yer all at once, but will for a bonus.
