The 50k PRG offer is gone, at least in Safari/Private.

Check your PM's.

I have a refer a friend link for anyone else who wants one.  50K MR for $2K spend in 90 days and 20% cashback up to $100 for restaurant spend in the same period.  AF is not waived year one.

So I logged into my account this morning and ordered a gold metal card to replace my plastic PRG. After it arrives, I'll call and have them send me a plastic one.

Why you ask? Because I can. Plus it costs them some money. My $195 AF is getting ready to hit. At least I won't deal with the $250 AF until next year.

One side note, the inbreds over at MyFuco are eating up this new metal product.

50K is all over the place.  Affiliate links etc

Too late now, but I had 50k and no AF the first year.  Still happy to pick up the card, but if I'd acted two days ago I would have saved $250.

Yes.  You also would have had gas at 2x for the first year if that means anything to you.  At least you'll get the $100 in restaurant statement credits in the first 90 days.

Some people reported that yesterday prior to the changeover the app links were dead.

We put less than 10,000 miles a year on all three of our cars combined, and the one that's driven most is a Prius, so gas isn't a hot button for me.

The $100 on dining helps.

Hi guys, I have few questions.

1: )

I have a PRG, (completely un-used this year). I already didn't want to pay the $195 annual fee this coming January, (so of course I REALLY don't want to pay the new $250 fee).

This card is D* 1984 and that's why it's still open.

Any suggestions for a PC to keep the TL open and aging? I assume any PC must be to another Charge Card.

2:)

I also have an SPG Personal that is also D* 1984, (but I can't see ever using again).

Any suggestions for a PC to another AMEX CC with no annual fee?

Does AMEX even allow PC from a Co-Branded card product to an AMEX product?

If you aren't taking advantage of the $100/year airline credit on the PRG, that's the most obvious place to start.  It'll lower the effective AF to $95.

At some point this card will become the new Gold card, which has a slightly higher AF but a lot more benefits if you're willing to use them ($100 airline credit, $10/month back on GrubHub and some chain restaurants ☣️, 4x at restaurants and groceries and more).

You may be able to PC now.  You could also PC to a Greenie for a flat $95 a year and just rely on Amex Offers to justify (see below).

The devalued SPG?  I'm in the same boat (D*95), and unless something has recently changed there is no PC option (please call and ask, though, and report back).

If you're inclined to use the Amex spending offers you should be able to get more than $95 in value back on the SPG without doing any non-offer spending.  Of course if you weren't using these offers before, you aren't likely to start.

Below is a summary of my savings from Amex offers.

You can't necessarily correlate the savings associated with an individual card with the card itself.  Often you will find the same offers on multiple Amices, so just because I used an offer on one card doesn't mean that it wasn't available to use on another.

The total savings would still be in the general area of these totals with fewer Amices, the per-card savings would just be higher.  Hope that makes sense.

Many thanks Sir for your detailed response.

I never really looked into the Airline credit thing , (and what airline I could choose), since I'm fortunate to only fly international in premium cabin.

Obviously, I incur no incidental airline fees and for the last few years have been putting my travel/dining charges on C$R.

I'll call AMEX today and PC the PRG to Green, (it's actually my oldest reporting TL by 11 months over the SPG).

I'll also ask about PC of the SPG, (but from what you say it'll probably be no joy).

You can use the airline credit to purchase airline gift cards from several different airlines.

I have had Platinum or higher (currently Executive Platinum) status with AA for the last several years and haven't paid an incidental fee in as long as I can remember.

I use the AA gift cards I purchase with the Amex Platinum airline credit toward personal flights on AA.

Keep the PRG.

Enroll in the restaurants promo, and you get $10/mo at some restaurants.  Grubhub, Cheesecake Factory or Ruths Chris.

Pick AA as your airline in the PRG portal. Buy a $100 AA gift card through the AA website.  I'll buy it off you for $80.

That's $200 of your $250 AF

I was seriously considering applying but then I saw that the $10/month credit is only at those few restaurants.  I don't use GrubHub.

"I don't use GrubHub"

That was my first thought too. Then I looked into GrubHub and realized that you could order takeout from lots of places, pick it up with no delivery fee. Turns out to be pretty useful for me as there several places I value on there.

I hate GrubHub with a passion (bad experiences with it in the past and I think Favor/Postmates are better). However, I might try the airline gift card thing to take advantage of that credit.

I *also* have a referral link for anybody who's interested.

Does anyone know if Eat24 purchases are charged with GrubHub as the merchant?

Eat24 has used the GrubHub interface for the past several months, and the Eat24 brand is being retired.

https://www.grubhub.com/help/eat24-faq

I'm asking because I get a $2 coupon from Eat24 every weekend, and it would be nice to pair that with the $10 Amex Gold credit in November and in December.   I mean, hello...  an extra $4.

It appears that the 20% dining credits ($500 spend/$100 back in the first three months) on the new Gold cards are being manually posted.

I just went through my first statement, and they completely missed a couple of  mid-cycle dining charges, but got all previous and subsequent ones.

They did manage to give me a $21.45 credit on a $1.07 McChicken®, however.

I'll easily max out the offer, so this will end up being a wash for both Amex and me, so I'm going to leave it alone.

Also note that the promo appears to be good for 92 days from account approval (acquisition).  92 days is apparently the definition of three months, at least for this offer.  I wonder if this extends to other areas of Amex card membership.

The offer has this language:

Welcome offer not available to applicants who have or have had this Card. We may also consider the number of American Express Cards you have opened and closed as well as other factors in making a decision on your welcome offer eligibility.

So I think the DW was a victim of the red text...tried applying for 50K offer online today and a pop-up came up before submission (and credit pull) that she would not be eligible for the 50K and did she still want to go through or cancel now and withdraw (with no pull).

I don’t think she ever had a gold card.  She did get a 100K platinum at one point, but I am wondering if it had to do with AmEx closing one of her cards (they didn’t like a large paypal transaction even though it was legit and cancelled the card).
