I don't see these benefits in my account yet.

 

These changes look pretty good.

 

I'm not a big fan of the doling out the restaurant credit model, but I think this new structure makes more sense for me (and I suspect a lot of other folks) than the old one.

 

Is this now the best (US domestic) dining card on the Market? I'm going to say that's a yes if you value MRs.

I don't think the AF will increase.

 

I think it will be hard to use the whole dining credit unless you are already using grub hub on a regular basis. After the delivery fee and the tip there isn't much food there. And I wouldn't be surprised if the participating restaurants were covering 100% of the costs of that credit.

 

By lowering the cap to 25k Amex is really just offering a spend based sub to use their card a lot, and in categories where, I would imagine,  the consumer spending data is highly coveted. I'm not sure how much their ability to monetize that is restricted... but I'd bet they can do a lot with that data.

I am expecting the AF on the PRG card to go up to $295.

 

I have a D*1995 Greenie that's on the hit list for closure when the AF hits in Dec/Jan (Amex Offers alone were saving this card from certain death, and then that fell apart a couple of months ago).

 

Perhaps I should upgrade my Greenie to the PRG now.  I believe the AF increase wouldn't kick in until the following membership year.  

 

The $100 airline credit for 2018 and again in 2019 would cover the next AF ($195) all by themselves.  And I'm sure we'd use the $10 monthly dining credit, as we order from GrubHub a couple of times a month.

Actually, after typing that, the PC makes sense on its own, regardless of what happens to the benefits/AF.

I am definitely going to ask if there is an upgrade offer when I call to do the PC.  Either way, I'm pleased to breathe another year of life into a D*1995 Amex.

 

Now if I could only figure out what to do with this SPG...

In Private mode in Safari I am getting a 50,000-MR offer ($2k spend) for a new PRG with the AF waived for the first year.  I may do that and PC my Greenie before the end of the year.

The offer has this language:

Welcome offer not available to applicants who have or have had this Card. We may also consider the number of American Express Cards you have opened and closed as well as other factors in making a decision on your welcome offer eligibility.

I was intrigued until I realized that this is basically 3,333 of the old Starpoints.  I think that gets you late checkout at the Aloft in Colorado Springs.

Waiting to see what happens with cash and points offers...that was actually where I tended to find the best value for *points at properties...never had to pay for a late checkout at a *wood property.  Asked and received. 

 

Always liked the Aloft in downtown Dallas...it actually was true to the concept.  The others were concrete slab walls raised and looked like every other four or five story Holihyatonada out there.

I am not a fan of the trend of having the sink/mirror on an island in the sleeping area of the room.  

 

My first experience with this was at the Aloft in/near Boulder.

 

The AC locations in downtown Denver and downtown Portland (and probably others) do this also.

 

The Andaz in Amsterdam and the W in London both do it with more style, but whatever happens at the sink should be behind a door.

Never seen that layout in an Aloft...each of the ones I have stayed in had a traditional bathroom that was behind a door.  But as indicated, I much preferred Dallas downtown since it was actually an old building that was converted.  The others I have stayed in were the standard slab walls and were basically contemporary minimalist but did have an isolated bathroom.  The last one I stayed in was also near Dallas when I had cause to deal with a case in Collin County...not sure if it was McKinney or one of the other little suburbs- it was close enough and got me my SPG points and benefits (such as they are at an Aloft).

It's going up eventually for all PRG holders. Unless of course you can get them them to waive or reduce it.
