Anybody in the path?

Here in CLT everyone is doing the usual Russian bread line thing.

How hard is it for people to just order a case or two of new production MREs off the internet and have them sit around for a couple of years?  Don't require water for prep, can be eaten cold right out of the package, come with coffee and drink mixes and even toilet paper with every meal.  All in a sealed waterproof package.  Good for a couple years if stored in hot weather.  Good for longer if kept somewhere climate controlled.

I agree Konrad with what you are saying. However most people don't think at the same level the both of us do in terms of preparedness.

Had a salamander today ask me if I was prepared.

Yep. I have guns and a bible. The guns are for looter control. And the bible is so I can officiate their funeral on the spot, if I feel so inclined. The look on her face was priceless.

And don't get me started about the asshats I've seen on TV and other media outlets evacuating from the coast, b!tching about the costs of hotels further inland. Zero evidence of price gouging from the Motel 6 all the way to Hiltons and Marriott's. Normal prices for the quality of the property. However some salamanders think the rooms should be given away.

That's exactly it.  Food, water, ammunition, empty sandbags should already (and always) be amassed.

Now is the time to fill sandbags, tape/plastic windows, swap batteries in optics and put a new coat of CLP (or Mobil 1) on a rifle.

All of those are freeze dried and take water/heat to reconstitute.  MREs are MEALS READY TO EAT.    They don't require water.  They taste better heated but not a requirement.  Dehydrated rations are fine for longer terms.   But for immediacy if a storm is perched over your head for a couple days, or you need to evacuate, MREs are the go to.   No need to reinvent what the US Armed Forces have already figured out with retort packaging.  You can even buy Kosher MREs.

I am not a soda drinker; except on those three or four occasions per year when I have pizza I require that it be washed down with a caffeine-free diet Pepsi.

(I live in Minneapolis; why is everyone suddenly preparing me for a hurricane...)

No, I am not preparing you for hurricane but an apocalypse. :-)
You’re in MN and don’t drink soda? :-)
My soda drinking similar. But, I drink coffee almost everyday.

Local news media coverage this weekend was wall to wall....repeating the same stories over, and over, and over, and over. Tried everything they could to make it sound like CLT was going thru the apocalypse.

Disgusting.

Then the asshat reporters in the Myrtle Beach area were so desperate. Many were showing flooded areas that flood during a typical afternoon summer thunderstorm. To the viewers across the nation not familiar with the area, many thought the area was decimated.

West of Wilmington took it in the flowers though. That whole area is low level land,  surrounded by rivers and other waterways, and a lot of it is swamp land at that. Catastrophic flooding since recorded history.....but did the media bother to mention that? Nope. My prayers go out to the locals in those areas.
