JH is a debt buyer. The OC should have stopped reporting after they sold it. There is no magic way to have it deleted unless it is inaccurate. If they sold it, the balance for them should show as zero.  Depending on where you live, this could be past the SOL since it is five years since DOFD. You want to  consider that before you antagonize these people. You could invite a lawsuit.

If OC has sold the charge-off (as appears to be the case here based upon descriptions), the REAL concern from a reporting standpoint is that a dispute will result in an updating to the reporting, thus showing activity.  It does not change the actual dates of events, but it DOES show a more current reporting which is triggering for the Fair Isaac models.  Sadly, there are occasions where it is best to leave an OC be if they are not updating with any sort of current poisoning effect.

The purchaser is who you need to be wary of if you do anything since, as noted, you could be within the window for potential litigation.  That being said, if you post HOW the current holder is reporting, as it appears on a real paper report from the major credit bureaus, there may be other guidance that could be offered.

Way past the SOL. Falls off in 2020.

Guess I'll just leave it sleep then.

The OC can report a zero balance but the junk buyer can report the new balance, yes?
