Hello Everyone! My best friend signed me up on his American Express card as an AU. His history is over 11 years with a 10k Limit and only 400 balance. As an AU account, why are they not reporting the history??? They list it as a recently opened account. Has anyone else had this experience with AMEX? He added me to a Discover card as AU and they reported within 4 days with the correct history.

Correct.

Full disclosure: "always" is in the past few years. Several years ago AUs would not only report the full history but also the history of the card member back to their member since date.

My always was in response to "Has anyone else had this experience with AMEX?"

I try not to even mention years old historical stuff so as not to confuse people.

Amex is one of the few issuers where an AU card reports as a new account.

Try a different friend/issuer.

If you aren't sure of the issuer and what might result, ask CB first.  It's why we're here.

General advice to preserve friendships and maintain family tranquility:  don't take possession of the AU card.  Let the primary cardmember keep the card.  Never put a charge on it online or otherwise.

Good luck.
