Residual Valuation guide?

Recommended Posts

Is there a residual valuation guide for current models and model variations of autos? I"m looking to get one last automotive "hurrah" [a high performance car] before I am in the Buick demographic, but I want to get something that holds its' value reasonably well, so if I decide to get rid of it in a few years, I'll get a reasonable amount back.

Each captive will have its' own residual guide, which may change as often as monthly.  Those values are not meant to protect the consumer, only to protect the Lessors' interest.  As such, I personally wouldn't put a lot of weight into using that to predict what my vehicle might be worth at a future point in time.

Some banks will use the ALG book if you could get your hands on one.  You need a Philadelphia law degree to read one and get it right.

Depending on the particular vehicle, go to the boards dedicated to the make/model...additionally, if there is a three or four year history with the vehicle, then you can loosely look to book valuations on the resale market to know whether the figure for the lease is realistic or not.  There have actually been some that worked in the favor of the consumer and where the consumer did well to just purchase the vehicle at lease-end and then sell it on the open market.

Hopefully you are looking at something properly equipped with three pedals :D

Edmunds has forums dedicated to each car and their lease pricing - from residuals to MF and incentives.  Currently shopping for a new lease for DW and have found it to be invaluable when negotiating with dealers.
