Interesting thought process going into this. Since the "prescribed" cocktail used in executions is currently embargoed by the manufacturer, use what's already killing thousands across the nation - fentanyl. Expand that a couple steps further and turn the whole DP paradigm into assisted suicide. Give the condemned inmate some fentanyl laced heroin, a lighter, a spoon, a needle and let nature take its course?

[Keep in mind the ToS - not here to discuss the meaning of the 8th Amendment]

Because that would be inhumane 🙄

But the murder they were convicted of wasn't?

I really don't understand this activism for humane deaths of convicted murderers

Millions of folks die every day,  and it is rarely calm or painless - why is a death row inmate more entitled than the rest of us ??

Meh....personally I think the form of execution should be dependent on the crime committed.
For example....some sick pervert who rapes and mutilates children's bodies before he kills them..... I have no issue, what so ever, of torturing them before they go...and then make the death as painful as possible.  Maybe build a Pyre or something.

OK by me. Just get them off this planet so we're not breathing the same air.

The death penalty usually involves victims, except in treason and such.

Should make the victims family be the executioners.  Would be interesting to see how many of them went through with it.

Putting a 1oz shaped charge on the side of the head would be quick, painless, cheap.  Kinda messy.

I can not relate to those who crave and condone torture, no matter the object.

Then you have never seen a small child's beaten and broken body.  Cigarette burns all over their body including their eyes.  Arms broken in so many places that, had they lived, would never have been able to use.
A teen whose body was bruised from head to toe, who had been cut from her neck to her privates because her mama's boyfriend thought she was a little slut.  For weeks he beat her until he finally killed her.  Her mama did nothing to protect her.

These are just two examples of things I saw all too often back when I worked in the photo/crime lab.  Spending weeks blowing up pictures to take to trial...only to have the effing SAO cut them a deal.

Oh yes, I believe in torture for the monster who do these things.

I do not.  Torture is torture.  You either like it or you don't.  You don't torture a rabid dog.  You put it down.  You remove the threat.  Rationalize it all you want, if you wish to torture something, you wish to torture something.

"Enhanced" interrogation techniques to gain information that can save you and others has a place.

If there's no information to be gained, then torture is a waste of time and just pollutes your soul.

I think torturing someone damages the torturer, but there are some times when it's necessary in order to prevent something worse, like a mass murder, etc.

AFA death penalty, victim's families can request that the death penalty be taken off the table. Prosecutors usually defer to the family of the victim. In some cases, they'd be happy to flip the switch or push in the plunger, if they could. I guess it depends on the individual. I couldn't do it, but who knows - that could change.

What an absurd process.

A long time ago I worked at 54 W Hubbard Street in Chicago, which was an old courthouse building that had been converted to office space.

Our main conference room on the mezzanine level had an arch-shaped opening that had been "bricked in" sometime over the years.

The opening once connected the inside of the courthouse to an outdoor courtyard where those sentenced to death were promptly taken outside and hanged.
