Top 15 States With Highest Credit Deliquencies

Recommended Posts

LOL! I knew Nevada would be high on the list. My business has me checking peoples credit frequently. Its rare to see 650+.

Also, shocker that most are poor southern states.

I'm curious as to why people would expect Nevada to be at the top. What am I missing?

10% credit card default? Ouch.

Also, those student loan figures are appalling.

Student loan figures will continue to be appalling until there's an intellectual aptitude test AND a positive repayment likelihood analysis required for getting a student loan.

Most people cannot borrow their way to prosperity, and way too many try.

Agreed. It seems all too common to no run a ROI calculation against the cost of a degree and expected income post-graduation.

Texas made the cut :yahoo:

But...looking at the numbers, our residents do a decent job at paying for the ranch, err roof over their head...

Vehicles...meh...have you seen what even a crappy one-ton goes for these days? Sucks that you cannot even get a manual transmission in them anymore...

Gambling? Partying? The Strip lifestyle? Lots of transients? This place attracts folks who are super excited about being irresponsible.

Also, I was a casino dealer for a while. The worst chasers were other dealers. Theyd get on a losing streak and sit there for hours, pulling cash from ATM until they couldnt, then start cashing checks at cage, then start asking for markers. Theyd play and play until they couldnt anymore or until my shift was done.

Then literally 24/7 partying and its not like any other US city. People blowing money to keep up their image. And just plain lack of responsibility.

Meanwhile, there are plenty of people, even living Center Strip, who ARE quite responsible and don't degen it up.

Are there transients out there? Sure, and that number may even have increased since pot became legal last year on a recreational basis. But a number of the poker players I know out there treat the time at the table like the job that it is and have applied their income towards housing in a manner that they have ZERO monthly housing nut save for HOA fees (where applicable).

There are responsible and irresponsible people everywhere...Vegas is not the entire State of Nevada, so even the outliers near Paradise are NOT what drives the ranking in issues like this one.

LOL. Those delinquency rankings dont lie. There are obviously a lot of irresponsible people here, and Las Vegas being by far the most populated area in a state that is 85% Federal govt land - clearly most those folks are in Las Vegas. Anyone who hasnt been living under a rock in this town knows, it attracts irresponsible types like flies.

A few responsible pro gramblers are not representative of the majority. They dont build those enormous resorts by giving away money.

1) you make it sound as though everyone living in Las Vegas/Paradise is irresponsible. They/we aren't (yeah, I am now a Clark County property owner in addition to the Texas homes).

2) Many of those whom the casinos and resorts cater to are NOT Nevada residents, so your second comment is not relevant to delinquencies.

3) Most of the players I know are the ones that don't bat an eye at playing the $1.5K-3K and $3K-6K mixed games...so sure, they are not the typical player, but the reality is that there are a number of responsible people in Clark County who DO take care of their financial affairs in a responsible manner.

1) No I dont. I am offering some explanation on why 10% of the population has CC debt delinquency. Las Vegas DOES attract a lot of irresponsible types. No one said anything about it being everyone. If you cant avoid taking that personally, that is your problem. Statistics are statistics. 10% of the state are delinquent on CC debt, and clearly most of that comes from LV residents. Period.

2) Many locals are gambling addicts. I personally dealt cards to them nightly for a few years, watching them do exactly as I described in this thread. Never said it is everyone. If you cannot avoid taking this personally, again, your problem.

3) Duh. Never said EVERYONE who gambles is irresponsible. But I am saying many are, and I know this for a fact because I dealt with them personally for years. Clearly I have seen more gamblers than just your circle of friends. Again, you are taking this personally when it obviously has nothing to do with you. Time to get over it.

There are lots of irresponsible people here, as shown by the fact we have the highest CC delinquency rate in the country. Period.
