Does Barclays permit opening of a 2nd Aviator account

Here's the story: Currently have a Red Aviator that's been open just shy of 5 years. About 6 mo ago, I consolidated my and DW's AA ticket purchases onto my card in order to meet the $25k spend threshold that awards 3000 EQD (was running light to renew EXP status last year).

I've continued to place all purchases on the 1 card and it now seems to me that the fee jump to Silver Aviator is warranted given add'l 25k+ miles annually earned via 3x multiplier vs 2x. (the kicker of two $99 companion certs is pure gravy).

That said, I'd rather not upgrade my current card: it's grandfathered with the award of 10k miles annually for the life of the account.

So do I have the option to apply for a 2nd Red and request an upgrade to Silver on that card, maintaining my current Red as is?

(And, as an aside, given the age of my present card, any chance they'd award a SUB on the new account? <not a deal breaker>) TIA.

I don't know the answer to your main question, but to clarify the companion cert... it's one companion certificate for up to two passengers on the same itinerary, and the $99/companion is before fees. After fees you're looking at $150+.

Also, the certificate is only good in the Continental US, and the $30,000 spending requirement to earn the certificate is based on cardmember year, not calendar year like the EQM/EQD benefits.

You probably know much/all of that, but the clarifications may be helpful to others reading your thread.

Feedback/clarification much appreciated, cv! :)

Truth is, again, I'm principally fixated on the 3x miles for AA ticket purchases. A $106 bump in annual fee is a cheap price for 25k+ add'l annual miles. But, yeah, a single cert for up to 2 companions vs two individual certs will definitely cut the value of that particular perk in half.

Keeping fingers crossed someone has experience with applying for a second Aviator card. I think there was formerly discussion of this something like 3-5 years ago ... at a time when getting a second SUB on a US Air card app was practically a foregone conclusion. However, don't remember any such discussion since Barclays introduced an AA card.

Just apply for it.

Fair enough ;) ... "10 day" response.

U need to call Anylast and see if its verification! 1866-408-4064.

Appreciate the input.

First checked the app status website and saw "unable to offer you a card". Called to speak with an analyst who stated flat out that Barclays doesn't permit holding more than one of same Aviator products.

I clarified that I was willing to waive the SUB and explained that I was seeking a means by which to segregate my personal and business travel expenses. Stated that I have the Citi card as backup, but that I preferred to keep my charges within the Barclay card product. Reply was that it was absolutely a "no go".

Modest consolation in that they didn't do a pull for the app; just declined it outright. (Far cry from the days when I remember someone here reporting having something like 5 US Air cards, all with SUB. ;)

------

So, seems best move to make is to upgrade to the Silver Aviator, pay the additional $106 annual fee, and sacrifice the grandfathered 10k mile annual benefit for the sake of approx 25k additional earned miles (via 3x vs 2x earning on est $25k air purchases).

Net mileage cost of 0.7 cents per mile (half my assigned value of 1.4 cpm) -- I come out up by roughly $100/yr.

I had (2) Barclay AA cards a couple years ago. I combined their limits into a single card.

Their policy must have changed.

I know others who had 2x Barclays AAviators.

Barclays is really odd/lame. Why can't you just apply for the Silver?
