Perhaps a rookie question:

Some issuers provide free credit scores as a benefit of being a cardholder. Do issuers who provide free scores use the same CRA for both free scores AND their credit issuing decisions?

I assume (but don't know with certainty) that issuers may not use the same score models for free scores as they use to extend credit.

How reliable is the correlation of issuers using the same CRA for free credit scores as credit decisions?

Example: Chase provide cardholders with a credit score using a VantageScore 3.0 model against a TU credit report. Does Chase actually use a TU credit report to make their credit decision, using perhaps a  FICO 8 Bankcard Score?

I ask because my 3 reports are similar, but not the same.  EX and EQ show a mortgage account, TU does not. TU reports the most inquiries, EQ the least.

The FICO score disclosed to you as an "account benefit" is the same score from the same bureau as a score used for account reviews.

fwiw, Chase used Equifax to approve my Sapphire Reserve back in January (score model unknown).

I wouldn't assume that approvals are based on whichever bureau an issuer gives to non-account-holders with a Vantage Skore next to it.  They almost certainly aren't using the skore itself.

A couple data points based on my accounts with the following:

PenFed uses Equifax FICO 9 score model

Citi uses Equifax FICO Bankcard 8 score model

Many thanks! Helpful.

Is there link or trustworthy source to a more comprehensive list of which card issuers use which bureau and which model, particularly the majors (Amex, Chase, BOA, et al)?

Appreciate your fast and specific response.

AMEX Gold just approved. A message popped up during the application that I don't qualify for the 50k welcome bonus.

How many Amices have you opened and how many have you closed in the past 12 months?

I had the PRG before. The message indicated that as the reason, consistent with the language used in the TOS.

In regards to the free score benefits provided by some banks for their customers, SOME (but not all) will specifically state "this is the same score we use for managing your account." I don't think there is any comprehensive list for this particularly.

However, there is a great feature on this site called CreditPulls which is a database showing the specific credit bureau and scores used by different lenders for application approval or denial. All based on data contributions of our members on this site.

Was FINALLY able to get the BJ's MC.  If anyone has been following my lust of Vig and his card they will know what I mean.

Came as a pre-approval in my e-mail today with full opt out language.  Ran through the process and was approved for $5K.  Not alot but matches my lowest limits.  We go to BJ's ALOT and 5% back can go a long way there.

It's funny, I cold applied for this a few weeks ago and was denied and now I get the pre-approval.  Go figure!
