Sad to hear this and is unfathomable.

Security breaches and Mass shootings seems to happening almost every month and is this the new norm we are striving for?

I am binge watching Supernatural and I suspect Apocalypse is on the way :beee:

What strikes me is how many factors are so at odds with the usual stats.

White male is about the only thing typical of mass murderers.

But this is not the norm:

1. Retired accountant, 64 y/o.

2. Has "girlfriend" (as described by family) traveling overseas.

3. Private pilot, owns two planes and possibly owns multiple real estate.

4. No record. No incidents with neighbors. Described by relatives and friends as "a normal guy."

5. Had 10+ firearms, in a large suite on the strip.

6. Automatic weapon used. This is extremely rare. Virtually all shootings described as auto, are not.

7. Obviously required planning over a period of some time. Not consistent with someone suddenly flipping out.

As an aside, he would seem to be living pretty well with those assets for a retired accountant.

This just doesn't make sense. Not that these sorts of things do - but it had to make sense to the shooter. There was some twisted reason he did the extensive planning and weapons acquisition required. His every movement and those even remotely associated with him will be put under a microscope. It will be figured out.

A lot of it doesn't make sense. He really doesn't fit any profile.
If it weren't for the fact that the guns belonged to him...I'd almost suggest that maybe someone else held him captive while going on the shooting spree, then killed him and made it look like a suicide.
(yes, I read too many who-done-it novels).
Perhaps in the days and weeks ahead, the investigation might shed some light on the motive.

Of course....it could have been the country music that set him off. :dntknw:

It doesn't make sense, but they'll figure it out. The things that have popped into my mind are:

Anti-Trump/Republicans - country music fans are generally speaking a white, conservative crowd (doesn't fit the whole armed to the teeth scenario well though)

He gambled away his retirement - wanted to hurt Mandalay

Later onset mental health issues - things like schizophrenia are often genetic, and hit males in their 20's and 30's, but either it hit him later or he quit taking meds

And of course the conspiracy type thing where he was kidnapped/brainwashed with MK Ultra type stuff

Maybe unrelated, but the shooter had been in the hotel since Thursday, and the concert was a 3-day event running Friday thru Sunday. The shooting began during what's been described as the final set of the show. Was the shooting timed to this final set or artist? Or maybe just a case of "The concert's about to end. If I'm going to do this, it's now or never".

Aside from an event like the concert, Mandalay doesn't have the large street crowds that you find mid-strip. Given the firepower he came with, it's all but certain that this event and its large target field was his planned objective.

He used his wife's Mandalay employee ID to swipe through employee only doors as the Mandalay. She's in Australia, where she is a citizen. The guy has been divorced twice before. Wealthy, real estate, aircraft, a 1%. This was apparently stock or something as an early accounting exec. at a precursor company to Lockheed Martin.

Gambled heavily at the Mandalay. The 1700 sq ft corner suite was probably a comp.

Guessing he was ticked off at the World and his wife had left to AU and not on vacation.

I just read that suspect had thousands of rounds of a ammo at his home. We cannot transfer more than 10k with Govt. knowing, but can buy more ammo without being noticed. But we still can't talk about any kind of control..

I am pretty sure not many will like my comments, but that is how I feel.

Will be interesting to see what comes up when they dig through his financial records. I'm thinking more and more that it was a case of pathological cognitive dissonance. He was a heavy gambler and apparently told his brother he was making money doing it. Sent snaps of large winnings to various other people too. The guy might have been wealthy (relatively) but gambling should only be done for fun with a good understanding of probable, mostly negative, outcomes during a session. There are a few exceptions such as poker (against humans) where a very few pros actually make money but he wasn't one of them.

And gamblers often develop strange ideas that their is some special way to come out ahead. This is exceedingly common.

So if the guy was, over many years, telling people around him (including gf) that he was making money but was actually digging a big hole, at some point it all comes crashing down.

Combine that with the criminal, pathological, nature of his father and the likely effects on him growing up with possible genetic influence as well. Then, when it became clear to him he couldn't keep up the façade he exited stage left doing as much damage in Sin City as possible.

Speculation of course, but it seems the most likely of a bunch of even less likely scenarios.

You left out the part that his chick left him when she found out he was now broke.

Yeah. That's a big factor. I mentioned it earlier:

And now the conspiracies start.

Multiple videos show muzzle flashes coming from the 4th floor. Police and security are on audio stating multiple shooters with one being on the 4th floor.

Confusion. Normal in a mess like that. The only broken windows were on the 32'nd.
