Weekend before last they were selling for 4 for $1. If it wasn't for me being gone for half of August and 75% of September I would have bought some. I've been knee-deep in mud for almost two weeks (but I get to leave tomorrow!). This was a convenience purchase for $0.75/ear at a local seasonal market, where I also paid $2.59 each for two cookies. They were also selling half pies that looked really good for $12, which is where I decided to draw the line. 😐

From the photos, the interior looks like a place that's trying too hard to be stylish (I prefer a cozier atmosphere with all of the emphasis on service and food) but the friend I'm meeting for dinner has been wanting to try it, so off we'll go. It looks like appetizers are completely out (at least for me). https://blvdchicago.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Dinner-Menu-08.12.21.pdf Oysters: would make me horribly ill (literally, not figuratively) Crudo: pickled anything, yuck; hamachi, triple yuck Escargot: I'm assuming these would make me ill, not willing to find out Crab cake: not a big fan, could go the rest of my life without one (yes, I've had good ones) Steak tartare: tried this last time when dining with the same friend. This is his favorite dish. Don't like it. Octopus: would make me ill Mussels: would make me ill That leaves shrimp cocktail. 💤 💤 💤

It's a pretty traditional higher-end steakhouse menu. One of the sides was spectacular: CORN & CRAB, grilled sweet corn, dungeness crab, corn pudding, charred scallions, cotija cheese It was a nice dinner overall, but I can't say it's a destination restaurant. We'll probably try a different steakhouse next time I visit. We ate at Calo in Andersonville on Saturday night, which was excellent, and I'd definitely go back. cv91915
I was pleased to head over to Darya at South Coast Plaza after a work meeting today. To be clear, I wasn't pleased to eat dinner with work people, but I do love Darya's fesenjon.
StarkRaven$
DH is a little sick so he wants chicken soup. Pulled out croc pot and added, frozen peas, minced okra, whole white onion, celery, parsley, carrots, diced garlic gloves, bay leaves, thyme, multi-herbs and spices and pepper. Sure makes the house smell good. cv91915

cv91915
I'm taking my aunt to Cutwater Spirits for lunch. The food looks pretty good, which is a plus since we don't plan on getting blackout-drunk.
hdporter
So Bev was admitted for 3 days of tests to finally get to the bottom of her illness. (The tentative diagnosis is that her immune system is attacking her neuron sheath tissue, but we're talking about something considerably more manageable than MS, with a much stronger prognosis under treatment).) All I could respond to her dinner pic was, "omg." TheVig

I suspect the meal was a covert test to see if she really had the fortitude to undergo the lumbar punch she endured the next day! It would seem that she passed both. Her specific diagnosis is CIDP and initial treatment will be via immunoglobulin (IG) infusion, starting with 5 consecutive daily 2 hour sessions, then just once a month. This should arrest the nerve destruction and provide an opportunity for her to regain her strength through aggressive PT. TheVig
Location is everything. Waffle House next door to the Econo Lodge. I freaked out the waitress and surrounding patrons. hdporter
This is what we celebrated "Labor Day" Sunday with, along with a store baked quiche. Those are Moet & Chandon "Mini's". Each is a quarter bottle, so two are the equivalent of a split. The things that look like "party hats" are "sippers", allowing you to sip from the bottle with a tad more savior faire. This was a $17/bottle splurge that popped up in a wireforwine.com offering a couple of weeks ago. With everything that's been going on, we were due for a modest "pick up". Little question we could have had a standard sized bottle of the stuff for a little more; but these were fun and funky hegemony and TheVig
cv91915
Dinner tonight was an ice cream scoop of lukewarm mashed potatoes, a New York strip (USDA Select?) and a pile of room-temperature mixed vegetables. The strip steak and something called "Hammer Time" were sold out. At least it was open. http://www.pikes-landing.com Menu
