That was dinner, minus the balsamic vinegar.  I didn't realize that we didn't have anything decent in the house.

I bought fresh parsley by mistake.  I reached to the back to grab the freshest pack of basil, but didn't look at the package before I put it in the cart.  Used the parsley and no one died.

I served garlic bread on the side, and then finished off with a couple of bite-sized desserts from Whole Foods.

That looks delicious.  I bookmarked it.

LOL

I might make this, too.

When we were in San Diego full time we always had a hanging planter with nasturtiums, whose edible flowers look spectacular on top of one of these cakes that are glazed with chocolate ganache.

I love nasturtiums.  I have never actually eaten one, though.  I have heard that they are edible; I just haven't done it.  I think I will plant some this year.

So GF is available TPA-DFW but not DFW-SAN?

The selections were the same on both flights, I just couldn't capture the entire list of choices (including the two selections they'll offer in-flight by default) in either screenshot.

I have a flourless chocolate cake in the oven.

I don't have the recipe that I normally use handy, but I figured I couldn't go wrong with a flourless chocolate cake recipe from a flour company.

This recipe was very good.

The chocolate I picked up at Whole Foods was excellent (don't bother with a recipe like this if you are just going to melt some chocolate chips you bought at Walmart), but they didn't have Valrhona, which is my favorite for baking.  :(

I only had a 9" square cake pan at the Mud Hut,  and nothing that was really suitable for serving something like this, so I just put the cake onto a simple dinner plate and applied the ganache.

The presentation was pretty awful as a result.  I would have flushed it down the toilet before serving it to guests, but TAD and I were unfazed by its appearance and we finished it off pretty quickly... and I don't even have much of a sweet tooth.

I might make it this weekend.  I can probably find some hippie rain forest chocolate in my locale.  I banned myself from Walmart years ago.

DFW-SAN:

The entree was decent once I got over the fact that it looked like it had already been through a baby.

The baklava bites were good.

The salad dressing was frozen.  I asked the FA why there was a rodent brain suspended in balsamic vinegar inside the little bottle, and I barely got a vague smile in response.

When they came around with the cookies after the meal I declined, since I'm an adult and I feel silly accepting something called a "snickerdoodle."

that meal looks awful.  I don't know what those 2 mystery items are next to the rice, but no way in hell I am eating that unless there is a mighty large stack of 100's as a reward.

This is the second time I've had the Hindu option.

They both looked awful but I enjoyed* them.

I guessed that the Hindu breakfast I had recently looked like a rice and shrimp cake when it was presented to me, but to my surprise it was sweetened rice with golden raisins and shredded carrots and cinnamon.  Once I adjusted my expectations from savory to sweet, I enjoyed* that also.

I do not know what the items are that are next to the rice.  The darker one was spicy and had some vague cinnamon thing going on in the background.  The other pile may have been pureed cauliflower, but there were kernels of corn in it.  So... ?

I took Mom to Maestoso for lunch today.  Second visit, both were exceptional.

Today I had a caprese salad and the daily pasta special... chocolate gnocchi in a tomato sauce with short ribs.  Phenomenal.

Mom had a yellow beet and Brussels sprout salad with a citrus vinaigrette (she declared this to be the best salad she has ever had), and then this pinsa (sort of like a pizza):

They wheel a salad cart past the table like you're having dim sum, which is pretty cool.  It certainly sells salads.  :)

  • 2 weeks later...

Friday can't get here fast enough. Out of town on business. DW called to inform me that my British side piece** sent me my birthday gift early. Churchill themed birthday card, along with two Fortnum and Mason dundee cakes.

** not really a side piece. It's an inside joke.

The problems of leftovers - since I'm in economy mode, I took some of my leftover chili and mixed it with a handful of spaghetti noodles to make my form of a chili mac. I've been eating that for my lunch at home. So today I get the chili mac out of the fridge to heat up and I find the leftover quandry - there's too much to eat all at once, but not really enough to divide into two meals.

I would divide that into two parts, and supplement each half with a hot dog bun.  If you have extra time, transform the hot dog buns into garlic bread.
