I have been seeing a lot of adds for ToM recently.  Is it worthwhile to join?  Are the products any good, and more importantly the prices that much better to forgo the ability to get a refund?

All I've done so far is given them my email address so I can browse the site.  It's fun to look at stuff I don't need.

I wasn't aware of the return policy until I just went to look.

It appears that "final sale" items are yours no matter what, and the rest can be returned for store credit.

I would probably pay a little more to have the option of a refund... depends on the item and the price.

I almost never return something just because I changed my mind, mainly because I over-analyze everything before making a decision.

I guess it depends on the item, but I like having the option of changing my mind for whatever reason (didn't like, quality, found it cheaper,  etc.).  Even if it was only 7 days, at least enough time to see the product up close.

I did just buy the Breville smart oven air.  I think that is what it is called.  It is pretty amazing and only took me about 2 months to decide. So far, my hastiness has worked out.

i just bought a Breville Smart Oven Pro.  So far I am fairly impressed.  Getting it for $100 off doesn't hurt.

I will say it doesn't work as quickly as my regular oven.  The first two things that I have baked have taken a bit longer than they would've in the regular oven (a baked potato and a spinach dip).  That said, it was great for doing the spinach dip while my oven was being used for something else.  Does a much better job with bagels than my old one, takes 2 minutes less and is much more precise.

Costco has $100 off the Kitchen Aid mixer. I asked DW if she would actually use it or would it be another kitchen counter decoration. She said "I don't know. Maybe?". It's still at Costco.

FWIW, this is one of my favorite kitchen acquisitions, even though I don't use it very often.  I did use it last week for the first time in a couple of years.  It made easy work out of a 5# batch of mashed potatoes.

I will say that the chances of using it would drop to 0% if we had to dig it out the back of a cabinet for each infrequent use, so having ample counter space for it to be a permanently out is essential for us.

My grandparents had one of their lower cabinets modified with a heavy-duty spring-loaded shelf contraption that allowed them to easily pop their stand mixer up to counter level while in use, which was really ingenious.

They also had three ovens, which made holiday entertaining a lot less complicated (ham in one oven, turkey in another, and pies in the third).

If you decide to get it, be careful with the ones that Costco sells.  I got one last year and it was complete crap. I returned it the next day.  I should have known something was wrong when the box was way lighter than my old one (which was smaller).  The bowl was super thin and rusted after I washed it.  Again, it was really light and I imagined it wobbling all over when trying to mix something.  The outside looked like a 3rd grader put it together.  This is going to make me sound really snobby, but it's like they used stickers instead of the nice metal band on my old one. Definitely not something I would want to look at on my counter every day.  Like CV said, they are heavy so mine always sits out on the counter.

We use our KA mixer quite a bit as well.  Not as much as we used to when my wife baked a lot and we were heavier.  Definitely worth the investment.  We keep ours in the cabinet, but that is only because we lack the counter space in the kitchen to accommodate it.  In our old house it was on the counter.

That is interesting about the mixer being sold at Costco.  I knew they usually had different/unique model numbers than those sold through traditional retail outlets, but I thought that was the only difference (equal quality).  I don't end up buying a lot of electrics/electronics from Costco, but that's something to keep an eye out for.

I never would have thought that would be an issue coming from Costco. Sam's Club - Yes. But Costco? I thought their stuff was always a little better grade than WMT.

Interesting thing is this KA mixer at Costco on special is some sort of "special edition" in a specially marked box that reads "Costco Exclusive". I know from years in retail craputing that no two models of PCs at different retailers are alike so they won't compete against one another (except Apple who enforces minimum pricing) so I would figure the Costco mixers are slightly different in colors or included accessories than the ones at say Bed Bath & Beyond.

Looks neat but not worth $1300.

Concur...

Admittedly, would ALSO not be a fan of having to bring a propane container into the house for cooking.  I could see hard-wiring into the connection for a stove or oven provided there was enough counter space.  Given a year or two, I can see the prices coming down OR, alternately, seeing some of the 'toys' making their way to the resale market via ebay or other avenues.
