I made some great lifelong friends when I lived here, and it was great seeing everyone, but if it wasn't for them I'd probably never come back. On an unrelated note I just took a shared Lyft ride back to my hotel. I went from Bucktown to Millennium Park for $4.42, pre-tip. That could not have been economically viable for anyone but me. cv91915
I once read that pre-ordering the airline meals for people with special dietary needs resulted in tastier food. So far: myth. The diabetic omelette on my SAN-ORD flight last week was terrible. On my recent HND-LAX flight I had the low-sodium breakfast (it needed a lot of salt and still wasn't very good). I'll know in about five minutes how nasty the gluten-free lunch is. On a positive note, when I complained to AA recently after the catering vendor didn't manage to get my special meal onto my flight they gave me 5,000 miles for my inconvenience. TheVig
Venturing into a Starbucks this afternoon was pleasant.......no waiting in line. And no douche bags using the place as their office. All the unwashed masses must be raiding the Walmarts for water and food with the hurricane coming.

I am coming up on the one-year anniversary of my last Starbucks purchase. I bought a couple of small sandwiches at one in Tokyo last year when I couldn't quickly ascertain other convenient options for carry-out near my hotel. The gluten-free meal was mostly a winner. The roll was ultra-dry and inedible. The salad and the shrimp cocktail were good. The chicken breast was better than most you get on an airplane. The roasted cauliflower was quite tasty, even though I found out after I ate it that it was actually grits with roasted corn. The pre-packaged chocolate chip cookies tasted like a Keebler elf's pajamas. Edited September 11, 2018 by cv91915
cv91915
On Sunday I'm taking my mom and my aunt to Bertrand at Mr. A's for brunch to celebrate their birthdays (they're twins).
cv91915
I had a late (3pm-ish) lunch with my mom at Chipotle yesterday. This was my first Chipotle experience in probably three years. At the counter there was a sign that said that they were out of guacamole. While we ate, four others came in, and three left after reading the sign. Who loves fast-food guacamole so much that they'd rather endure the inconvenience of driving somewhere else for lunch than just skipping the guacamole this time? I usually just adapt, but I have had a few times over my fifty years on planet Earth where I simply HAD to have a certain food craving met. I guess those people are like that all of the time. cv91915
Lunch today will be Cuban/Puerto Rican at Andres. They're a MileagePlus Dining restaurant, and I need to prevent some United miles from expiring.

The pierna de puerco asada was really good. I'll definitely go back.

cv91915
My special meal adventure on American Airlines continues. Today I ordered the Hindu option for breakfast. No idea what the main item was. It looked like a shrimp cake to me when the FA set it down. I tasted it, and it was sweet, which was alarming because I wasn't expecting sweet. By the third bite I liked it. I have no idea what it was, but my best gues is rice cooked with milk, golden raisins and a few carrot shreds. Topped with chopped coconut.
