fifteen cents is fifteen cents...c'mon.  Would you leave that change if you saw it laying on the counter?

Yesterday my mom needed $800 in cash to pay their gardener for some work.

Dad's at their summer home and she doesn't have an ATM card.

First I had to call WF to increase my daily withdrawal limit (it was set at $310... when was the last time you got a $10 bill from an ATM?). The increase request to $1,000 was approved.

Mom called me when she arrived at the cardless WF ATM and I requested an access code from the WF app. I read the access code to her over the phone. She entered that and my PIN, and the transaction was declined twice in a row.

I called WF and cleared the fraud alerts via their automated system. She tried again and got another failure.

Thankfully, several months ago I added her to my WF account for situations like this, so she ended up just walking into the branch and withdrawing cash at the counter.

Mom needed more cash for the gardener (anyone else wondering why the gardener needs so much cash while Dad's out of town?), so I stopped at the Wells Fargo ATM this afternoon and used an access code to attempt my transaction.

$400 withdrawal: declined

[got new code]

$300 withdrawal: declined

[got new code]

$200 withdrawal: declined

I called and the agent said that it might be because I'm traveling, and she began the process of adding a travel alert on my account.

She sounded exhausted after adding my trip to Japan which starts on Monday, then a couple of days back in California, then part of the following week in Raleigh before heading back to Mudland. That's just the next 12 days, so I didn't go into my July plans.

Technically I am traveling since the Mud Hut is the address on the account, but seriously... this is the ATM that I've used for 99 out my last 100 withdrawals, and this particular ATM is at the branch where I've done nearly every in-person transaction since late 2004.

This is getting old.

I'm liking casinos more and more. I go every couple months and take out a marker or two which I often pay back with winnings before leaving. But when I leave I cash whatever chips I have left, marker or not. Keeps me in cigar and cash type spending money. Haven't used an ATM (or teller) for cash in a decade or so, I travel with a couple grand and usually come back w/o spending it. But you never know. Sometimes you just need cash.

So what you're saying is when Wells Fargo plays the commercials about reinventing themselves, they mean they are reinventing themselves as a credit union?

On the way back to the Wells Fargo ATM this morning I logged into the WF app and requested an ATM access code.

I got back an error message that said I'd requested the max number of access codes in a 24-hour period, and to try again later.

WTF? They declined me four times (not three as I originally posted) yesterday and I never got any money!!

I took my card along just in case, and that worked fine. But good lord.

  • 1 month later...

Barclays Aviator Silver was declined a couple of hours ago when I attempted to make a £9.80 purchase to use the London Underground.

The previous ~8 charges today went through fine.

I put the charge on my Amex Platinum instead.  No drama.

Hopefully, my card is not being declined anywhere. If my card is being declined, it means I don't have any money.

That said.. The next place may be somewhere in the mall.

I guess Barclays thought I was out of money but Amex did not.  Go figure.

Amex Delta at Taco Bell. I called Amex to be safe. Amex didn't even see an attempt. Definitely a fuq up on Taco Bell's end.  Card worked fine at other establishments.

I've always wanted to try one of their tacos with the shell made out of Doritos(R).  Seriously.

Myself and three of my credit whore coworkers went to Starbucks this afternoon. Sign taped to CC terminal asks Amex users to swipe. Of course we tried inserting for shyts n giggles. DECLINED. Swipe was no problem. Lol

While waiting on drinks, I look at my Twitter feed.......low and behold Amex has a post that stating Serve and Blubird users are experiencing difficulties and we are working on a fix. Granted we were all using CC. Not sure if it was related, just found it funny.

Mom's Discovery IT Fake Mylez(R) card was declined last week when she attempted to make an $11 purchase at Trader Joe's.

Three previous transactions totaling < $400 were flagged as potentially fraudulent.  Apparently mom bought something online for ~$300 and my dad had the audacity to buy gas and groceries with his AU card.

The vending machine in my office.  And all I wanted was trail mix. :(

A customer of mine has a very large employee breakroom. All the vending machines take credit cards. All of them clearly state they accept Amex. Well they don't...…….until now. Owner of said business told the vending company to accept Amex or pull out all your shyt.

Needless to say I'm happy when I visit. Top brass at this place is happy too. The vending machines code as restaurants. After all we talking serious first world problems if we don't get 2x MR on a bag of chips.

Red Hat Ampitheater in Raleigh ..... neither swipe nor insert worked for my Amex BCE.  He manually keyed it in and it worked.  🤷‍♀️  The guy talked the whole time about how it'd been forever since he'd seen an Amex BCE.  🤷‍♀️

Did the vending machines start accepting Amex again?

Yesterday my Citi AAdvantage Executive card was declined when I attempted to purchase a $3 train ticket at the Washington Street Blue Line station in Chicago.

Once again the American Express Platinum saved the day and allowed me to use subprime public transportation.

I always enjoy dragging my luggage a half mile through city streets to get to a train station, having my credit card declined when attempting to buy a ticket, and then arriving at the airport covered in public train filth.

When I got home I boiled the clothes I had on.

Amex PRG at Morton's.

As the waiter comes to my table to embarrass the shyt out of me, the manager comes running up, and says hand me that card back. Some moron had a cable from the terminal unplugged.

Comped $50 off the tab for the trouble without me even asking or expecting it.

The manager must have read step one in the "Troubleshooting" section of the terminal's owner's manual...

Any explanation would be great. I thought to list a series of events would be better than some long paragraph. I have pics and proof for all events below.

Mid May: Ordered Vehicle (checked credit score showing 730 at the time)

June 7: Toyota Financial Services received payment for old lease

      June 12: TFS closed account

June 30: TFS reported to the credit bureau account closed on June 12

Friday July 9: Credit was pulled by dealer (first of knowing of outstanding balance on a said closed account)Was able to get bumped to a Tier 2. (Nothing was reported nor sent to me that I had an outstanding balance)

Monday July 12: called Transunion because their score was what was pulled that hurt the deal. Transunion said that they show nothing of delinquency on my report AND show no history of it being removed nor it ever being on there in the first place.

Evening July 12: called Experian because no other apps were showing a tier 3 credit score. They also said they had no history of it ever being on my report. (Talked to about five differnent people) They put me on a callback list to speak to a supervisor. Associate had said supervisor was in a meeting and would call back.

July 13: Called Experian again to figure what happened. Received notifications that my credit score had increased 66 points and delinquency was removed notifications on Experian app. (No certainty that it was removed from report because they said there’s nothing bad on my report. I guess I take their word for it??)

Evening July 13: received a notifications from credit apps that Toyota Motor Credit has reported positive activity on a outstanding loan balance. Loan paid.

July 14: Called TFS to request document to cross reference dates.

July 16: Called TFS to speak to Toyota Motor Credit. Turns out there’s no one to speak to in that department. It’s the same as calling TFS. Called Experian again to ask why they are just now reflecting on my credit that I had an outstanding balance that was just closed on July 13 not what TFS sent which states that it was closed in June 12. Experian had told me that the account was closed in June but when I explained to them that’s not what I’m seeing in my emails and notifications, they became combative and hung up on me. No one can tell me how and why on July 9, a inaccurate mistake cost me money and no one can send me my credit report to verify that there’s no delinquency. TFS agree that someone dropped the ball (but not them) and is willing to send any and all reports they have on my accounts. All credit bureaus has yet to send me to any documentation of removal of alleged delinquency and I will never know what happen on July 9th that cost me money. I’m paying more than I should and I could’ve been out of $1k(nonrefundable deposit to order vehicle) because I will not sign a tier 3 deal. Who knows how long I would’ve been without a car in this market if that were true.

      Hello,

Does anyone know either by experience or with a good degree of certainty if American Express (AMEX) will decline card membership if you have ever filed bankruptcy against them? I have read somewhere that they keep a permanent “barred from membership list”.

Is this right, no. However, as you probably know a financial institution may choose to do business with whomever they choose (a rather broad definition). I have read that even if an American Express account has been fully-discharged by a successfully complete bankruptcy case, they will no longer choose to do business with you.

The reason I am asking is twenty years ago, I listed them as a creditor in my Chapter 7 bankruptcy case. I would like to apply for membership in the future when my current FICO is a bit stronger. However, I do not want to burn a hard-inquiry only for it to be declined.

I apologize if I am not posting in the correct area. Thank you.

So- my credit file has not significantly changed in a long time (and I qualified for long-term zero% auto loan back in April).

I do carry significant balances on my credit cards, but always pay (auto-pay) significantly more than minimum payments.

but something triggered an odd cascade in the last few weeks.

I got notice one of my Synchrony accounts had suddenly had the credit limit dramatically reduced. I contacted them and they said they periodically check credit report and make changes. The letter they sent indicated high balances to limit on cards.

a day later ai get another letter from Synchrony- for a second account with them was having the limit reduced...

we all know this impacts your credit score, as it messes up your utilization %.

today, I got notice from a different bank- that, due to higher credit utilization rates, they dramatically reduced my limit in that card -

Which of course now even further rips my credit score...
And this afternoon, I get notice from Synchrony that my Automotive account (that has never had particularly high balance can limit) was having a limit reduction down to the current balance!

What’s going on?  I have NEVER been late, never payed just the minimum payments on any accounts...

Is there some massive banking “surprise” on the horizon?

I did recently put a credit freeze on all 3 bureaus due to someone filing for unemployment with my name/SS# and I filed a police report on that.

I have paid credit monitoring service- and there is nothing new or odd on my CR...

      So what’s going on?
