Great article, Hege!

 

A good 15% of my job involves dealing with financial fukcups and without fail the leading causes are:

 

1. Permanent change of station;

2. Divorce; and

3. Rolls Royce tastes on a Ford Pinto budget.

 

One big advantage we have is that DoD is aware of the financial strains military service can impose and has multiple financial awareness / training programs that are mandatory attendance. Maybe even a bigger advantage is that on the first small sign of financial distress, I can order an individual to attend and actively participate in financial counseling.
