PAID Medical Bill Trying to Delete - Whychat Method?

Hello!

 

First want to say thanks to all the forum contributors and the creators as there is a wealth of info here! Through lurking on the forums I’ve been able to solve all my credit hurdles up to this point.

 

But in response to a recent Experian credit alert I reacted without double checking the forums which has led me to my current situation.

 

Currently, I have a collection on my account showing as PAID.

 

The debt is tiny: between $5 and $20 (I know the actual amount)

 

I have recently paid this debt to the ORIGINAL medical debtor with receipt.

 

My goal is to have this account removed from the two bureaus since there is still some point deduction to my score.

Here is a timeline of events:

 

Aug 10,- Got a notice from Experian of a medical collection for to a bill from 2 to 3 months ago.

Aug 11- Score drops 60pts (ouch!)

Aug 12- I dispute with Experian with the option that " I had no knowledge of this account"

Aug 23- I pay the medical entity NOT the CA.

Aug 23- I call the CA to make sure they have received notification from the medical entity that I paid. they tell me that it takes a few days for the hospital to contact them and that they can put my account on hold for 10 days (as of Sept 2 my account still shows it is on HOLD)

Aug 23 - I dispute through the CA website to speed up the removal with uploaded receipt to speed up the process for them to remove the debt

Sept 3- I call the CA to check progress and they say the payment is paid but it will not/can’t be "removed" from your report.

 

In regards to the Experian dispute, it resulted in the debt “not in the list below” in the dispute report. To further explain this, here is a portion of the dispute status update I got from Experian.

 

Here are the results. If an item you disputed is not in the list of results below, it was either not appearing in your credit file or it already reflected the requested status at the time of our reinvestigation. If an item says “Deleted,” we have removed it from your credit report and taken steps so it does not reappear. If an item says “Remains,” it means the company that reports the information to us has certified it is reported accurately. If an item says “Updated,” your results may also indicate whether the information you disputed was updated; that information about the item unrelated to your dispute (such as a balance or date) may have been updated; or whether the information you disputed has been verified as accurate but other information unrelated to your dispute was updated (such as a balance or date). The current status of the item is included with your results, and you should look at the item carefully to see whether you believe it is now accurate.”

Additionally the CA never had my correct address (an address I never lived at) on file UNTIL I recently sent in the CA dispute; this is also the reason I never got receipt of the debt. I’m now thinking the CA dispute was a HUGE mistake on my part because I’m guessing I could have disputed on the lines of them having an incorrect address.

Furthering I’ve been on the phone with the CA twice (yes I know that’s a cardinal sin but I thought paying the original debtor would solve things). Despite this I haven’t admitted to the debt on any of the calls.

 

Current statues recap:

Collection shows as: PAID on Experian and Equifax

 

Collection has been paid to the ORIGINAL Debtor

 

I have been in contact (on phone) with CA (no longer in contact)

 

So my question for the Whychat method:

 

  1. Despite having done the disputes through the Experian and the CA website do I still send the dispute letter to them before the HIPPA letter?
  2. Where do I go from here? Do I go ahead and send the HIPPA letter or do I start with the “Alternate Medical DV for accounts that have been PAID” form or something else?

 

Well that’s it! Hopefully someone (whychat ;) could chime in on what to do next.

It sounds like I messed up the entire process by jumping the gun to pay the OC. Ok I will do what you have listed here and report back.

Quick question, on the top of the dispute letter there is a space labeled "PD#___" what is the "PD#"?

PRIORITY MAIL INSTRUCTIONS
Here is how to send priority mail letters:
Go to the PO and get a dozen flat rate priority mail envelopes (6X10 is the easiest to use)
You can either buy them prepaid with the postage ( $6.45) or buy the priority mail stamps separately.
Get a stack (they come in a book) of FREE USPS tracking forms.
Whenever you send a letter, affix your copy of each receipt to the hard copy of the letter you have sent.
You will, of course, be entering that PM tracking # in the heading of each letter.

Thanks Whychat for clearing things up

 

UPDATE:

 

I just got a notification this morning that my Experian score changed...Surprisingly it went up! (30+ pts) I havent done anything besides what I mentioned in the original post; so i havent done the whychat method yet.

 

 

After looking at my Experian account it shows that the collection has dropped off. Not sure if my original dispute with Experian and the CA worked or not but its gone!

Additionally the collection on the Equifax report has dropped of as well.

 

I wonder if this has anything to do with this: (since it happen around sept 15/16)

Im guessing I should leave this alone as they can't add the collection back??

 

I hope the results are permanent since now my report is spot clean.
