Hello Fellow CB members,

I was planning to start with a few dispute letters tomorrow. However, I think i should start with removing my old addresses information and making sure that my new address appears correctly. I am planning to send a copy of my license, utility bill, birthdate and SS number with my address removal letters.

Issue: I pulled the free credit reports, so i think the CRA now have 60 days instead of 30. Should i wait for their removal before i begin my dispute letters. The free reports are going to slow my pace down, significantly, if I wait for their response. I am planning to send a letter every day until i have addressed all disputes for the next few days.

Can you give me some advice on my strategy or how to improve my plan?

Thanks,

Debtstopay

Where did you pull your reports from? You need to order paper reports. If you order directly from CRAs They have 30 days to respond to your dispute. If you order your free annual credit reports they have 45 days. Personally I never cared whether it's 30 or 45 days.

To get responses to your post please list all your derogs and all relevant dates.

I am in the process of getting all my adresses deleted except the current one. And ordering reports.

I am ordering paper reports direct from the CRAs.

Does it matter if you get the free paper report or if you pay for the paper report... Direct from the CRAs?

And why send copy of your License and Utility Bills?

I got Equifax and Trans Union to remove old addresses via a phone call

Experian was giving me static and wouldnt do it. They said "if I ever lived there at the old addresses they had to keep them on"

Anyone else find that to be true? How do you get experian to remove old addresses?

thanks

If you look around the boards you'll see lots of people with that experience at Experian. You can try to mail them a copy of SSN, DL, and utility bill (All showing current address, of course) with a short and sweet message such as "I am concerned with the possibility of identity theft. This is my only address, please remove and delete any discrepancies. Thank you."

Zanshiro.....thank you that is a great idea. Will let you know if I have success with that.

TU was very helpful...maybe it was the rep I had...

Cleared everything...made any adjustments right away...and with each adjustment or correction they send you a new copy of your full credit report for no charge. (i just made some changes a week ago, and then found out I needed another, so I am getting 2 reports. They want to make sure you have the correct info listed when you request a change)

also, they did a credit freeze for 10 dollars. Very easy on one phone call...that is Trans Union

Experian seems to be the toughie

I can also confirm that TransUnion and Equifax have no problems with updating addresses over the phone. Equifax did say it would be 30 days for them to dispute the other addresses. I'll be sending a letter CMRR to Experian to have those addresses removed.

I've found it easier for the mail in method, and seen more successes with it. That is also an advantage to mail, is frankly you don't deal with a rep who can ask you those type of entrapment questions.

The ones where you can decline to answer, and they can say "It has to be reported if it was your prior address" and then you get asked "Have you ever lived at this address" - Where, if you have prior, you can choose to say you decline to answer, I suppose, but it might make for heckuv an awkward phone call. I imagine it like this now:

"So you dispute that this address has ever been yours?"
"I decline to answer that, I'm just looking to have it removed as it's not mine."

"But has it ever been yours?"

"I decline to answer that."

"It's reporting that you've lived there before, are you telling me this isn't the case?"

"I decline to answer that."

XD I find it basically simpler to mail with a true statement such as I mentioned above, and not have to deal with people trying to push you towards lying just to get an old address removed.
