In-laws needed a bit of cash so I borrowed $35k @ 10% for 60 months. They do this every year and always pay me back within several months. This time I had in mind K's "Personal Loan FICO Tweak" and paying attention saw that as the loan went below, IIRC, 40% my FICOs went up from 810ish to 835ish across the board. Not too shabby. Thank you, K!

Anyhow, this is month 4 and the loan was paid down to $250. My plan was to let that ride for a couple of years and pay about $10 per month. Except last week I got tired of seeing $250 so decided to push it down to a flat $100 and let that ride for a couple of years at a few $$ per month.

Now I see that the day after paying it down to $100 USAA zeroed out the loan and marked it PIF. Now I'm expecting 25 point drops on my FICOs. :swoon:

Screwed by kindness. Now that's a first.

Send USAA a private message online and let them know you're not happy about the reporting. They did something similar to me, I messaged them, they called me, and they corrected the credit reporting. I was pretty upset about it and let them know that so ymmv.

I called them and they said that as a courtesy and in appreciation of my loyalty they waived the remaining amount and marked the loan PIF. Oh, well, live and learn. Screwed by kindness.

Wow. You have family that has the capacity and respect to pay you back? Lol.

Only on my wife's side. On my side (brothers & sisters, but excluding my parents) I wouldn't lend them a bottle of water if they were in the desert dying of thirst.

My wife's family is great. Heck, even my wife is great. I never tell her that, though, because then she'd be asking me to do crap like do dishes and help wash clothes. ;)
