Master List of Reasons People Don't Save Enough for Retirement

I've said it before, and people get grumpy and defensive when I do, but I 100% believe being poor is a choice one makes. Sure, some people have stuff happens that they couldn't have planned for if their life depended on it, but those cases are few and far between. People just spend too much money on crap they don't need. I have a coworker who is always yelling at her bank about overdraft fees and there is no one at my company who should be hurting for money. But she eats out 2, 3x a day at $8-15 a pop. Gee, I wonder why you're broke....ūüôĄ

Agree totally.  Granted, some people have a much harder path to get there, trying to escaping from generational poverty/welfare, however the opportunities are there if they want to embrace them.

Among those with a "harder path":  the 9% of the population with an IQ < 80.  For such a person, the distinction between bad choices and good choices is as much clouded as the distinction is crystal clear for IQ > 120.

Just remember, stronger opportunities sometimes take a bit of scrutiny to really discern them.  Sometimes that "embrace" is a challenge in itself.

Did you really think this was the target demographic for the comments?

Actually, I don't discern a "target demographic" (that said, I've been know to be a "tad thick" on occasion).  I've assumed an observation of the general population and I've chosen to stress a particular segment.

Exactly...

I was referring to the majority, not those who have special needs, which is obviously a totally different discussion.
