What can I do about this? When my credit score was in the low 500s, citibank gave e a secured card.

I just checked my email and got an email from them tellling me to log in and look at my messages as my card is closed immediately.

I log in and basically there is a letter with my card number stating that they pulled an equifax report and seen something derogatory on my account and they were forced to close the card.

I called in and they said it was no scam and no mistake my card was closed. They said i would get my secured deposit back in 1-2 month. thats right 1-2 months and they took a $25 fee for the card when it first opene which I will not be getting back. Now, I have never went over on this card, only used it a few times. I dont mind them closing it as the cards limit was only like $2-$300. My question is, is there any way to get the account completely deleted from my credit report so it has no effect on my average age of credit anymore? I mean, its really odd that they give me the secured card when my credit was around a 520, but now that it is around 650 with no new deragatory accounts they decide to close the card. this kind of pissed me off.

I don't even care about the small card just send me back my deposit, and I would like to know if there is any way possible to get this account removed from my credit reports instead of having this 2-300 dollar card on my report for 10 years.

Citi=TRASH!!!

When I initially received the card, there were a few negative things on my credit report. Since then, my credit rating has jumped well over 100 points on all burues, and everything negative has been removed with the exception of a paid sprint bill which is showing as paid that I am currently trying to get removed. Im not sure if the sprint bill in collections was even showing as paid back then, and I have a hospital bill which I had more than one showing when citi gave me the card. everything has just gotten MUCH better since I've had this card and NOTHING has changed for the worse unless you count 3-4 new inquiries maybe?

so for them to just close my account, keep my $25 fee and then tell me its going to be up to 2 months before I even see my security deposit back from this has me highly pissed. I only used the card 3 or so times so I don't care about it, but since it was open, I thought Id leave it open and just try and get it to grow with me. damn if they just deleted the account from my CRs altogether, I would be happy. at least then my average age of credit would slightly go up.

Has it reported yet? How is it reporting?

its been reporting for 9 months. always good standing, never late. only a few charges ever went on the card. always kept it at a 0 balance though.

Now that it's closed, how is it reporting? I've noticed secured cards sometimes report as closed by consumer when they were actually closed by the lender.

Id have to wait and see. I dont think it shows on the CRs instantly, does it?

You literally just got the email? I dunno, checking my reports would be the first thing I'd do.

I would call them and first, ask them to remove it from your report. They likely will not do that. Then, ask them to note that it was closed at your request. That may be the best you can do.

And I would take a peek at that report and see what it says.

Doesn't really make sense. It's a secured card. What are they scared of? Must be some policy they have to follow. I just hate it when they do that, because then you've got a short-term account, and I guess an extra inquiry as well.

got a call today from one of the specialists. apparently there is a new account reporting as derogatory on my report(which I have yet to see) and I have opened a few credit cards in the last 9 months since having this secured citibank card. he keppt stressing this. so apparently, when you have a $200 secured citi card, its not good to open a few much higher unsecured credit cards with other companies. ridiculous! He stated it will show as closed and paid in good standing on my credit report. anything I can do to move this account from my report entirely?

Why in the name of Mrs. Paul's fish sticks would you want to get rid of a positive account?

wouldnt it negatively impact my credit showing that it was closed at the banks request?

and although miniscule, getting rid of it would bump my AAOA up

No negative impact for the account being closed by credit grantor. I just had that happen with my Discount Tire card (after four years of non-use).

What is your AAOA with and without this account?

Sidenote to CB: Is Citi one of the banks that will close accts if they find negative items of a criminal nature from other CRA's?

You're thinking of Chase, USAA, and some credit unions that have reported closing accounts after the fact based on suspicious history

Thanks, I knew about the Usual Suspects, but wasn't certain about Citi.

Don't be surprised if more creditors shut you down.

if removed, my AAOA wouldnt be that much better. glad to know that the closed account will have no negative impact. as far as the new deragatory account on my reports, I just pulled all 3 from CCT and there is nothing new on there. so the only reason I can think of them closing my account is because I opened more cards since I got theirs which seems odd to me, but maybe thats standard practice for some creditors? since getting the card I have had some negatives removed, my score has jumped over 100 points, and I havemore credit. Im usually only hanging around 1-5% utilization

Do not be too concerned. In a few months try unsecured CC with Citi. Do not take it personal. Just business as usual.

it just beats me as to why they actually closed the account out of the blue like this.

I believe the new derogatory combined with the recent credit seeking has led to this.

Be prepared for the possibility of more AA.

EDIT:

It graduated 18 mo later with 2 CO still reporting at the time and I'm sure I opened at least 15 accounts during that time period

Consider that all of your derogatory marks were from before applying versus this one which is new. Edited by illusemycreditcard

Citi stated new accounts being opened and a new deragatory reporting. I checked my reports, there is nothing new that is reporting negative. I've missed no payments, use a very small portion of my available credit, and have 0 new collections. Citi lied.

the ONE PAID collection and only collection on the report they pulled was on there well before I got the secured card.
