Amex max number of credit cards = 4 ?

Recommended Posts

Seems that the max number is not set in stone.

I just reapplied for the Blue for Business now and was instantly denied with the only reason being "According to our records, you currently have the maximum number and type of American Express Card accounts that we allow."

I have credit cards:

SPG personal

Everyday

SPG business

and had SimplyCash Plus.

Charge cards:
Platinum personal

PRG personal

I had the chat person close the SCP because I don't use it, and would much rather grab the BfB in it's place.

Anybody have input on how long I need to wait to reapply now that I am under 4 revolvers?

*EDIT*

I should note that the chat guy told me he recommended just calling the phone application number right now, since they would be able to approve the application now that I am under 4 revolvers. Should I just try that?

I would go for it.

ah I was studying too long tonight. Got the email confirmation that the SCP is closed, so I will re-apply tomorrow and if that doesn't get auto approved I'll call in.

In case anybody is still thinking that 5 is the new limit...

Just reapplied for the BfB 24 hours after closing SimplyCash Plus (so i was down to 3 Amex revolvers) and was instantly approved for 10k.

Pretty clear they don't want me to have more than 4 revolvers.

That must be a personal limit.

I have 5 revolvers.

Yes, what I mean is that 5 is not a universal limit. They won't let me have more than 4, at least for now. Haven't been with them even a year yet but they have given me about 50k available unsecured credit and a ton of MR.

Given that account age, it sounds more like an overall exposure ceiling versus number of cards.

How would you explain their denial due to "max number and type of accounts", i close a 3k recover, and 24 hours later instant approval for a new 10k revolver if that was the case?

Seems pretty clear to me they just don't want to give me more than 4 revolvers at a time...

Thanks for the info. I also have 4 revolvers and was denied on the 5th. I have only had Amex cards since July 2015, so maybe people with more AMEX history can have 5 cards.

Unfortunately, we cannot approve your application at this time. According to our records, you currently have the maximum number and type of American Express Card accounts that we allow.
