chz Posted December 21, 2016 Hi, Had my account hacked in 2014-2015 for Wells Fargo and my account went negative $1,000 and was closed. I currently owe them $770 or so for something I didn't do. They didn't listen. Anyways, I called Wells Fargo to call about paying it and said they would update my EWS record to reflect that it's been paid off but when I called EWS, they said it'd remain on my record for last 5 years. What's the deal here? The lady at EWS gave me a nasty attitude. Should have reported her to her manager or something. I've been stuck with BBVA in the mean time. chz Posted December 21, 2016 (edited) I was able to open a bank account with Citi. Well, got passed the verification and Chex/EWS (if applicable) stage. Waiting for them to confirm my proof of address and I think it will open. Edited December 21, 2016 by chz
tmcgill Posted December 21, 2016 (edited) For ID theft, you have to notify them in writing. Since this has been several years, check with your state Attorney's General's office about filing a police report. If it is possible to obtain a police report, send that and the FTC ID theft form to the bank and EWS. There are legal guidelines under FACTA they must follow for ID theft. You shouldn't have to pay for something you did not do. https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/pdf-0094-identity-theft-affidavit.pdf https://www.privacyrights.org/consumer-guides/identity-theft-what-do-if-it-happens-you Edited December 21, 2016 by tmcgill
chz Posted December 22, 2016 and if I don't do the police report? then what would happen.... I feel uncomfortable as it's been a couple of years and I don't even have statements for WF anymore.
tmcgill Posted December 22, 2016 The report provides legal documentation. Since so much time has passed, not sure how much leverage the reports would provide. I would contact your state Attorney General's office and inquire.
