I went through some tough times and defaulted on just about everything in 2010 (and I had crap like First Premier) and I barely knew what a FICO was. A year ago I had a Capital One secured, an Amex charge card (that up until 2014 had a $500 spending limit), an IRS lien, and a 608 FICO.

Thanks to all the great information and people here not only have I managed to bring my Experian score up to 786 (EQ is 700 and TU 690 but they'll be just as amazing as the in a few months) but also got dismissed a lawsuit that MCM filled against me. I'll admit I had a lawyer, but the info here got me to do something about it and not be part of the 90% that get a default judgement.

Now I have about $35k in unsecured credit (terrible by CB standards, but I'll work on it next year), the most subprime card I have is a $0 fee card from Merrick Bank with a $2500 limit, and I only have one store card. Even more important than credit my bank and IRA balances now exceed 50% of my pre-tax income and even with 0% APR I can't bring myself to carry a balance.

Special shoutout to hegemony, your incessant bumping of posts got me to read way more than I would have otherwise.

That's awesome!!!

Have you joined NFCU yet? That would be the biggest step to getting higher credit limits. It got me from an average of $1k approvals to an average of $8k approvals.

I joined NFCU a few months ago and was instantly approved for a card with a $15k limit -- my highest ever. And that's with an unpaid charge off appearing on the report they pulled. I can't say it enough, CB rocks.
