Hi nice people,

I am new to this and really happy to have found this board. I am currently enlisted with Army and wanted to join USAA, a military specific bank. They asked me to send in LES along with DL.

I am not applying for any of their credit products at this time. While I don't mind sending in LES, I am a bit reluctant to send in a full LES since it has so much more information on it. I wanted to ask if it

is recommended or acceptable to block off other information on LES such as Ent, Allow, wages, leaves etc and leave only identifying information for them to read.

Send a PM to PotO if you have a specific USAA question.

You can always submit a redacted LES and then decide to resubmit if requested. They obviously shouldn't required more than Sec. 1, lines 1-9 if you're not applying for credit or insurance products other than the fact they want to data mine you.

I agree with Konrad.

I had to submit documentation recently and I did cover it. I think they verify it anyway with another source but I don't know which one though.

I recall this same post on another forum. You weren't happy with the advice there?

I seriously doubt USAA will accept a redacted LES. Many of the things you want to block are clues that would help identify a fraudulent LES.

Besides, what good does blocking that data do you? I could talk to you for two minutes and I already know half that data without you even telling me. Unless you are trying to hide something. An E-1 with a PEBD (pay entry base date) of 1/1/2014 would look pretty crappy so that you might want to hide. ;)

I did post there. I actually did not see any feedback so I wanted to be clear.

The reason I am trying to block was that I dont have very high income. I am worried that if I give them entire data, down the line when I do try to apply for credit, they might use that info to deny me. May be I am not too familiar with

how this income thing works for credit applications.

You do know that your LES lists your pay grade, right? And your PEBD? With those two items I can come within a few dollars of your income. Try blacking out these two fields and see if USAA won't shoot you down for membership.

Membership is membership. Unless you are applying for a credit product there's no reason to worry about income. And if you apply for credit and don't want them to know your income your real problem isn't income.

Thank you, Sir! I am also aware of the fact that under section 1, rank and PEBD are good enough to determine income.

I ended up going to FC at west point, since I was already in the area and I presented my CAC.
