Barclaycard Aviator Silver - EQM Earning/Posting Question

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for real-world experiences (I've read and understand the official terms).

How soon after you hit the necessary spending threshold are you seeing AA EQMs hit your AAdvantage account?

I recently switched to the Aviator Silver as our main card, and hit $20,000 in 2016 spending on 7/22, so I have 5,000 EQMs pending. My next statement date is 8/21.

I'm more concerned about the next 5,000 EQMs, because I need them to count in 2016 to comfortably ensure Executive Platinum status for the following year.

I'm wondering if I need to squeeze in the second $20,000 before my 10/21 statement cycle closes, because if it's statement date + 8 weeks I might be out of luck if the qualification is based on the spending on the 11/21 statement.

The EQMs showed up sometime in the past two days, backdated to 7/31.

I went back and double-checked, and the transaction that included the 20,000th dollar of spending was on 7/21.

One could infer that the miles are credited as of the last day of the month in which the spending was completed, or ten calendar days after completing the spending. The former is more logical, but I'm good with either. :good:

For some reason I also earned 1 base mile.

We are currently $14.19 shy of the second $20,000 in spending on this card for 2016.

As soon as any of the pending charges posts we will cross over, and I'll start watching for the EQMs. I'll report back when they post to my AAdvantage account.

I'm currently at 87,908 EQMs (82,908 from flying). These bonus EQMs will put me at 92,908.

Here is what it takes to get to 82,908 EQMs by flying, if you fly economy (1 EQM/mile flown):

MUD-ORD-SAN

SAN-CLT-TPA-DFW-MUD

MUD-DFW-SAN

SAN-DFW-RDU-DFW-SAN

SAN-CLT-MUD

MUD-DFW-MSY-DFW-SAN

SAN-ORD-PHL-ORD-SAN

SAN-PHX-MUD-DFW-SAN

SAN-DFW-MUD-CLT-LAX-SAN

SAN-DFW-SAN

SAN-DFW-FLL-ORD-SAN

SAN-PHX-MUD-CLT-SAN

SAN-JFK-SAN

SAN-DFW-AUS-PHX-SAN

SAN-CLT-SJU-MIA-SAN

SAN-DFW-MUD-PHX-SAN

SAN-DFW-SAN

SAN-CLT-MUD-DFW-SAN

SAN-JFK-DCA-PHX-SNA

SAN-PHX-DEN-PHX-SAN

SAN-LAX-YYC

SAN-PHX-SAN

(I think I got all of them)

The Aviator EQMs plus the following trips already booked should get me over the line to Executive Platinum:

SAN-DFW-MLI

FSD-ORD-LAX-SAN

SAN-ORD-SAN

And if any of those fall through, I still have the following planned between now and the end of the year.

SAN-DFW-MUD-PHX-SAN

SAN-DFW-MUD-ORD-SAN

SAN-PHL-YYZ

You fly a lot to Ankara, don't you?

I've never been to Ankara.

Oh. For some reasons I remember hearing you talking about Ankara for a while now. Well, time to move some MR over to Aeroplan and take a well deserved vacation there.

My spouse's family is in Ankara and he visits at least once a year.

I will probably never meet them because his parents blame me for turning their wonderful son into a dirty homosexual.

His mother recently started referring to me by name, rather than "that man," though, so maybe there is hope.

Though the turks seem to be more easygoing with 2 women, the majority ain't exactly very friendly to the LGBTQ community. Never been to Ankara, but Istanbul is beautiful. With the coup and all the associated uncertainties, award availabilities have been superb.

The exploding airports aren't helping tourism either.

I'll report back when the EQMs post to my AAdvantage account.

Thanks to a quick trip over the weekend, I will have Executive Platinum status as soon as the Aviator EQMs post.

Will this be your first time as Exec Plat? If so, I predict it will be a treat. Since I first qualified a year ago, I've enjoyed 90%+ upgrade success on domestic flights :) Out of my last 16 segments w/ FC, I've only failed to make the cut once.

Btw, don't recognize "MUD" ... international?

I've had Platinum status more years than not for over a decade, but this will be my first year with Executive Platinum status. Frankly, I hoped to never fly this much, but I am looking forward to more comfort next year as a result.

Maybe a trip to a Turkish bath will help him be a clean homosexual instead of a dirty one?? I've never been to Turkey or a Turkish bath, but the reports I've heard are quite enticing.

I was holding out some hope that these new EQMs would have posted a little faster this time, and that I'd have EP status by now.

My upgrade request for SAN-DFW this morning is still pending, and right now I'm still stuck in a window seat.

At least the upgrade on my second flight is confirmed, but that isn't uncommon as a Platinum flying the second half of the day on a Saturday...

I received the second batch of EQMs sometime during the night.

The EQMs have a posting date of 10/31, however I am certain that they were not effective on that date because if they had been, I would have had Executive Platinum Status before my flights this past Saturday, 11/5.

I was only able to upgrade one of two flights on Saturday, and that upgrade cost me two 500-mile upgrade credits. The upgrade would have been complimentary at the EP level.

Regardless, here is some status porn:

I'm 2/2 for upgrades today, my first travel day with EP status.

But were these flights to Mudville?? I bet those segments are easy upgrades.

True, the competition with the Mud People for upgrades isn't as fierce as, say, a flight from DFW, but MUD-PHX was ~1700 miles on a legacy US Airways A319 that only had two rows in First.

They wouldn't claw back the EQMs if I downgraded the card now, would they?

I could survive a 5,000 EQM clawback thanks to some recent unplanned travel, but if I lost all 10,000 I'd lose EP status.

Screen%20Shot%202016-11-30%20at%208.18.4

I only have one more revenue ticket planned for 2016 (one-way, SAN-DFW-YYZ, on 12/28), and I don't see that changing.

Point of interest: Barclaycard doesn't charge any additional AF when you upgrade from the Red to the Silver in the middle of a membership year. I paid the $89 AF in April of 2016, nothing additional for the Silver benefits since then, and if I downgrade back to Red, the chances of getting the AF waived next year are about 100% based on what I've read.
