So here's a new one for me. I'm helping a friend of mine with her credit reports.

She got the card in May of 2012 and went delinquent Apr 2013, and never paid again.

Had a credit limit of $300 and final balance of $489. In December of 2015 she got another Capital One card. The old account is showing in her Capital One account when she logs in.

So here's the weird thing. On Experian, it's showing as a credit card with the complete history of the card. However on Transunion and Equifax there is no record of it as a credit card account. I see it as a collection account. But it's not listed in the credit card account section of her reports.

It's within SOL, and she is perfectly capable of paying it off. What she doesn't want is it to show up on her other two reports.

What should we avoid so it doesn't show up on the other reports?

Now realistically it's possible to remove the collection reports from her accounts, as the DOFD is incorrect(it shows 3/2015 versus the actual DOFD of the account which is 4/2013.

What should I do with this?

Pay it in her capital one account login? Do nothing? Dispute the collection accounts, etc.

Don't make decisions based on one anecdote, but when I disputed Capital One on one bureau they took the same action on the TL on two bureaus.

In my case this worked in my favor because it was an obsolete dispute and I got two deletions with one dispute, however in this case a dispute could leave your friend in a worse position than she is in now.

Yeah, it's hard to figure out what to do. This could be one of her only baddie in a couple of months. But if I poke it, and it rears it's head it could totally screw her up for years.

I just don't know what to do with it. Part of me says just leave it and don't even mess with it.

But it's still listed as a collection on her other 2 reports. That is a baddie in itself.

Your friend has to make a decision on paying it to the OC and hoping it doesn't show up on all 3 CRA's. If you do, then dispute to get the collections off since it was paid to the original creditor..

Or you leave it alone then the 2 collections stay on along with the one CRA reporting the CC account.

Oh whoops, sorry the original lender was Capital One. I think I edited it and it's not very clear.

Cap 1 that is showing on Experian as a credit card with a history and all that. None of the credit card history is showing on either TU or EQ. Only the debt collector is showing.

I care less about the collection account showing up as it is now than I would the credit card showing up.

To be clear:

TU -- No Record of CC -- Collection/Charge-off

EQ -- No Record of CC -- Collection/Charge-off

EX -- 2 Year record of CC -- Collection/Charge-off

It's not even showing up as a credit card debt from the CA, it's showing as a "Banking" collection.

As I've said she can log into Capital One, and she sees her $1,000 new credit card, and her $489 balance on her old credit card that she hasn't had since 2013.

Just looked it up, it's actually outside of SOL. In Virginia it's 3 years, and so she can no longer be sued.

She's sitting at a 703 at TU, 699 EQ, and 615 EX. To be clear on TU and EQ, it looks like her average age of accounts is over 12 years, and that she got her first credit card 15 years ago, and that she has never been late on a credit card payment. Compared to EX where she has a credit card that went over 120 days late.

So even with the collection, she's doing pretty well credit wise. Lots of aged good accounts 30 or so(student loans, etc). That's why I'm so hesitant to mess with it at all.

With it being out of SOL I'm kinda tempted to just let it be. It's not currently stopping her from achieving anything she wants credit-wise.
