Had Medicaid, hospital has info, credit report reflects two charges by SCA

Recommended Posts

I had two emergency room visits dated 7/6/2015 and 7/31/2015. I received Medicaid that went back to 6/1/2015. I gave this info to hospital where all charges were incurred. I never received letters nor phone call from anyone. I phoned Eastern Radiology and asked if they filed Medicaid. They filed BCBS. They were able to file a claim for 7/31/2015 (medicaid) but not 7/6/2015 due to being past a year. Am I obligated to pay for 7/6/2015 visit even though I had Medicaid?

The hospital bills and MD bills were all taken care of by Medicaid. Just not Eastern radiology...I asked for documentation of all attempts to reach me to be mailed.....(suggestions, comments, constructive criticism).....I just want this off my report.

I'm a little confused by your dates. Do you mean you had medicaid in 2015 that ended on June 1, 2015 and you were seen in the hospital in July of that year? Or that your medicaid started on June 1, 2015 and you had active coverage in July?

If you had active coverage in July with Medicaid then you should not be responsible for those bills. From my understanding, at least in Ohio, it's illegal for them to ask you to pay a medical bill if you were entitled to Medicaid benefits at that time. I would call Medicaid and explain the situation.

You may want to post in the medical forum and get help from WhyChat.

As a side rant, many medical billing departments are incompetent.

They will fail to send you a bill or contact you in any way. And then they will send you straight to collections.

Sorry for miscommunication. I had Medicaid from 6/1/2015 to 12/31/2015.

My kids have medicaid and we get crap like this on my credit report ALL the time because they do not bill properly.

In my situations, you have to call the hospital billing group and have them pull the bill back from the creditor and rebill medicaid. Do not contact the collections agency.

Tell them that a collection appeared on your account that should have been covered by medicaid and that they need to rebill them.

Good luck! I am on the phone literally at least once every week for misbilled stuff for 3 kids (that all have medical issues).

Wanted to echo the other replies above. My kids and I have medicaid as a secondary and same thing happened to us. My son had an ER visit in 2014, I gave all of our insurance(primary and secondary) info at time of visit, never received a single bill. A year later it hit all of my credit reports. They had never billed either of my insurance companies. Just finished having it removed with the whychat method but it involved having them rebill it to my primary insurance(they missed the deadline for billing the remainder to medicaid so they wrote the remainder off).
