Our biggest score was a Kitchen-Aid mixer attachment that had been on Bev's wishlist @ a 90% markdown. But when we stopped in a month ago (May 20, with about 60% of the stock off the shelves), the majority of desirable stock was barely marked down vs what you might have paid before closeout using one of their ubiquitous 20%/25% coupons (of course, there was no item limit on the closeout). Still, having not bought linens in ages and keen to decorate the new house, we came away with a great flannel sheet set (a void in our Atlanta inventory; very handy in Boston ), a comfy heavy cotton blanket, and a really nice duvet set (plus a few miscellanea). So, yeah, we dropped $400. At the rate that people were walking out with stuff at these prices, it's gonna be junk on the floor when they finally get around to some REAL markdowns. Quote

The inflation is pushing the Dollar Tree store into annihilation. Today, online shopping is phasing out most superstores, and one giant, Amazon, wants to dominate the entire online business in most if not all, marketplace shopping categories. Quote

TheVig Posted June 29, 2024 Posted June 29, 2024 Hooters shuttering under performing locations……..due to inflation pressures. All my life, the oldest profession in the world was recession / depression proof. Until now I guess. Unbelievable they can’t sell azz and chicken wings, regardless of economics conditions. https://www.foxbusiness.com/markets/hooters-shutters-dozens-underperforming-restaurants-optimistic-future.amp Quote

Big Lots noted 'substantial doubt' in SEC filing about ability to continue I wouldn't conclude something about the economy from one poorly run discounter that can't compete with walmart and amazon. It would be just as wrong to say everything is great just because one stock market index is higher than it was a year ago. FWIW, I never fond much value in big lots. selection was limited and I could never figure out if it wanted to be a discount corner market, hardware store, or home goods trash bin. hdporter Posted July 16, 2024 Posted July 16, 2024 Big Lots has always come across to me as "Lotsa Crap". Could actually be a treasure trove, for all I know. But their advertising has never captured my interest and I've never heard much of anything via word-of-mouth, thus have never stepped across the threshold. hegemony and greendeh 2 Quote
