Yikes! I hope not.

I have my shiny new Chase Sapphire in my wallet ready to go test it out. I resist the urge to spend 2 thousand bucks at Wal-Mart mainly because I don't shop there! Instead I head to get gas and get groceries. Gas no problem. Publix for 79 dollars - DECLINE! Oh my... So I just pay cash, and I call Chase.

They tell me I need to contact the Sr. Fraud Specialist. I do. They say they will call me in 24-48 hours as my account is under review... All I could think about was that sexrobot post and walmart but I am at Publix... Finally after 4 or 5 back and forth calls my card priveleges have been restored.

They said they thought it seemed funny to see a gas station charge and then a grocery store. I said "well that really doesn't sound to out of the norm to me, but that's kinda what I do - get gas, and go shopping" she laughed, apologized and all is well..

But I was actually a bit nervous as I saw my highest limit card floating away... but i'm good.. Just sharing this crazy story for anyone who cares to read it :)

Gas - perhaps surprising for those thinking electronics - is one of the most common uses of stolen cards. (whispers: Staaaaarbucks.....)

^ this

My first purchase with my new chase card was at Chevron for my morning coffee, then next purchase 2 hours later an online, card not present, for almost $5K. Never had an issue.

Come to think of it, I have never had a charge declined. Maybe I'm lucky, dunno.

Lucky and Chevron coffee don't go in the same stream of thought.

But my local Chevron sells Seattle's Best coffee. It's really good, my favorite coffee!

I'm heading to Lee's Liquors to break in my new BOA card.

I think we need to GP (Guinea pig) this: Who's up for trying a cash advance at your local strip club? Maybe a few thou$and at your local pawn shop. 9 or 10 TVs? Ooo! A casino cash advance. Seems legit.

My first Chase BA card purchase was at the same liquor store.

You've been profiled as breaking in all cards at the liquor store. :D

All fraud charges on my cards were online purchases of IT products. Memberships, hosting or domain services, etc. Interesting because I have a lot of those kinds of charges that are legit. Our domain names are on auto-renewal, along with privacy services (we have enemies). One year when they all hit at once - that how it's set up - they were all declined, and I had to call. A nuisance, but I figure it's a necessary evil, with so many bad guys out there.

I've had one incident with the gas-grocery store combo - AmEx thought it wasn't me. I called them while I was standing in line at the grocery store.

My very first purchase on my very first AmEx card was for 6 large pizzas delivered to the insurance call center where I was working at the time. We had a party because I had finally gotten an AmEx card.

Now that is an awesome reason for a party!! How cool that you did that to celebrate; your co-workers were a lucky bunch. I wish I had thought of that!

I remember a few years ago the common CB plan to celebrate a new Amex was steak. But I have to admit the pizza party at work idea is much more creative and FUN! :clapping:
